In order to get the children to interact with me and to show them that the issue is important at all kinds of levels I wanted to start my first session by asking open questions about what they think my degree “Ecological and Environmental Sciences” is about before we conduct a session so that they can connect with both me and the content. Some sort of similar method of opening the floor for discussion of environmental sciences is recommended.
The structure would be to have three lessons: past, present and future. Within these lessons I’d highlight the recurring theme of habitat destruction and biodiversity loss while showing the children that through time things have changed in Scotland because of our influence. For example, species that were specialised to Scotland’s habitats in prehistoric times are now unable to survive here due to human influence and population growth.
