Does UnIdentifyWP make my WordPress site 100% hack-proof?

UnIdentifyWP focuses on hiding your plugins and themes by masking paths and folder names.
It reduces the information attackers can use, making your site harder to target.

Will changing wp-content, plugins, and themes folder names break my site?

Un-IdentifyWP is built to handle this safely. However, because every hosting environment is different, you should:

  • Take a backup before major changes
  • Test on a staging site if possible
  • Check key features (homepage, login, cart, etc.) after enabling masking

Once configured correctly, your site will function normally with masked paths.

Does UnIdentifyWP actually rename the folders on disk?

No. UnIdentifyWP does not physically rename any folders on your server.

What Un-IdentifyWP does is:

  • Generate custom public URLs for these paths
  • .htaccess / Nginx rewrite rules to map those public URLs back to the real internal folders
Will this work with caching plugins and CDNs (Cloudflare, etc.)?

In most cases, yes.

Because Un-IdentifyWP works at the URL and server-rule level:

  • Caching plugins will cache the masked URLs
  • CDNs will serve assets from those masked URLs

You should clear all caches (plugin, CDN, browser) after enabling or changing the settings, then test pages in an incognito window to confirm everything is working as expected.

Does this help with “View Source” and “Inspect Element”?

Yes, in the most important way:

Even if a visitor uses View Source or Inspect Element, they will see masked paths instead of:

  • /wp-content/plugins/plugin-name/…
  • /wp-content/themes/theme-name/…

They can still see the HTML (no plugin can truly block that), but:

  • They cannot easily detect which plugins or themes you are using

This is exactly what you want when trying to secure your WordPress site against fingerprinting.

Is UnIdentifyWP compatible with all themes and plugins?

UnIdentifyWP is designed to be theme- and plugin-agnostic, because it works at the URL/path level.

In most cases, it will work fine with:

  • Popular themes and page builders
  • WooCommerce and other major plugins
  • Custom themes and child themes

If you have heavily customized or hard-coded paths in custom code, you should:

  • Review and update those paths where necessary
  • Test your critical flows (checkout, membership, forms, etc.) after enabling UnIdentifyWP
Does this plugin replace a firewall or malware scanner?

No.

Think of Un-IdentifyWP as:

“Stop telling attackers exactly what I am running.”

You still need:

  • A firewall or security plugin to block malicious traffic
  • A malware scanner to detect infections
  • Regular updates and secure hosting

Un-IdentifyWP works alongside these tools to make your WordPress site more secure overall.

Can I revert the changes if something goes wrong?

Yes.

If you misconfigure settings or run into issues:

  • You can simply de-activate the plugin and everything will be back to normal
  • You might need to re-save permalinks from Settings --> Permalinks

It is always recommended to:

  • Backup your site before making structural changes
  • Test on staging for mission-critical websites
Is UnIdentifyWP suitable for client and agency projects?

Yes. It is especially valuable for:

  • Agencies that want to protect their stack and processes
  • Freelancers who provide WordPress security as a service
  • Anyone who does not want every competitor or client to see exactly which plugins are in use

UnIdentifyWP gives your projects a more professional security posture and helps you confidently say you took real steps to secure the WordPress site setup.
