ABOUT FREEDOM FIELDS

Freedom Fields is Beagle Freedom Project’s one-of-a-kind animal sanctuary and educational outreach center, built on the very property that was once the site of one of the United States’ largest private animal testing facilities. Today, what was once a place of fear, confinement, and pain has been transformed into a refuge of healing, hope, and second chances. At Freedom Fields, survivors of animal testing and other forms of cruelty run on 30 acres of open grass, feel the warmth of the sun against their fur, and begin lives defined not by what they endured, but by the love that surrounds them now. Every day, Freedom Fields’ expert animal care team provides survivors in need with the trauma-informed, rehabilitative care they so deeply deserve. Visitors are invited to learn, connect, and become part of Beagle Freedom Project’s powerful movement to end animal testing once and for all.

FREEDOM FIELDS: A JOURNEY OF HEALING AND HOPE

On Valentine’s Day in 2024, Beagle Freedom Project made history by permanently shutting down one of the nation’s largest private animal testing facilities and transforming the property into what is now known as Freedom Fields. What was once a place long synonymous with the suffering of thousands of dogs and cats has since been reimagined into a safe haven for survivors of animal cruelty. Since that day, hundreds of animals have found refuge at Freedom Fields, each one a living testament to the power of compassion and community. Through rehabilitation, specialized care, adoption, permanent sanctuary, and educational outreach, Freedom Fields is not only saving lives — it is changing hearts and helping build a world where every animal knows safety, love, and freedom.

HOW FREEDOM FIELDS BEGAN

The story behind Freedom Fields began with Beagle Freedom Project’s long-standing promise to save and protect animals from the animal testing industry. Each year, Beagle Freedom Project’s founder, Shannon Keith, sends letters to laboratories across the United States, calling on them to end their cruel operations and release the animals in their custody. In 2023, one laboratory owner responded. What followed was a mission to liberate the site’s surviving animals, secure the permanent surrender of the facility owner’s USDA license so that they could never experiment on animals again, and transform the property — which once comprised nearly one-third of the nation’s flea-and-tick research — into a specialized sanctuary for animals rescued from animal testing and other forms of severe cruelty.
