About Kevin

A View From Rio

I spent four decades navigating the structured world of technology, managing releases, and deciphering corporate logic. Today, I live in Rio de Janeiro, where “logic” is a relative term and the pace of life is dictated by the sun and the quality of the next espresso.

Who is Kevin?

I am a retired expat, a lifelong reader, and a professional observer of the human condition. After forty years in the technology trenches, I traded the computer room for a laptop and a view of the Atlantic.

This site, Being Kevin, is my digital home for the things that keep my mind moving in retirement:

  • The Printed Word: Deep dives into historical biographies and non-fiction. I don’t just summarize books; I try to figure out what the past can actually teach us about the present.
  • The Expat Life: Navigating retirement in Brazil—the beauty, the bureaucracy, and the daily “pão de queijo” moments.
  • The Absurdity of It All: Life is often ridiculous. I write about my gripes, my daily prompts, and those small, strange experiences that make being a “retired guy” more interesting than I expected.
  • A Good Quote: Sometimes someone else says it better. I take the quotes that stick in my head and pull them apart to find the meaning underneath.

Why I’m Here

I’m not a fan of paywalls. I believe that good writing and honest reflection should be accessible to everyone. My goal is simply to document a life in transition and perhaps provide a bit of “observant realism” for your own day.

Support the Research

While this site is free to read, keeping the “retired guy” fueled and researching at the local coffee shop does come with a small overhead. If you enjoy a particular post or find value in a book review, a small donation is never expected but always deeply appreciated. It helps keep the caffeine flowing and the server running.
