At home by the water

The waterfront is a key feature of St. Pete and recreation happens in, on, and next to the sparkling waters of Tampa Bay. Walkers, runners, boaters, and bikers line the downtown waterfront from sunrise to sunset, catching glimpses of dolphins and other wildlife that play just steps away from our downtown offices.

Public and private marinas, yacht clubs, charters, and ferries make it easy to take advantage of our calm, blue waterways, and anglers enjoy quick access to the water from seawalls and piers. 69 miles of BlueWays paddling trails offer the opportunity to explore from the quiet tranquility of a kayak or paddle board.

People-powered recreation

The City of St. Petersburg and Pinellas County prioritize local recreational infrastructure, with the goal of making St. Pete one of the most pedestrian and bike friendly cities in the nation.

Bicycle lanes, recreational trails, sidewalks, and routes for non-motorized vehicles connect St. Pete’s neighborhoods. St. Pete’s bike sharing program has positioned 300 rental bikes in 30 locations from the Downtown Waterfront District to the Grand Central District.

Bike or hike through town

Pinellas County is also home to the largest network of cycling and pedestrian trails in the Southeast. You can ride or walk the Pinellas Trail, 36 miles of former railroad, from downtown St. Pete all the way to the north of Pinellas County. For those who want to make a day of it, there are plenty of farmers’ markets, parks, and eateries along the way.

From pilates studios and cycling classes to outdoor community yoga and climbing gyms, it seems like there’s no end to the exercise opportunities in St. Pete.
