This ficathon was created by ozsaur and dustandroses because we love spooky stories. trillingstar has been very helpful with finding great art prompts and is hosting this year's artwork. Halloween is the best time of year for reading stories that offer pulse pounding thrills, blood curdling dread and hair-raising horror.
All fandoms are welcome. Stories can be Gen, Het, Slash or Femslash. All ratings are accepted.

05:23 pm - Conversation Leading to Art * As part of finally watching all of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power I've talked with hamsterwoman about how much and how long I've loved the character Bow in the franchise. It got me thinking about how much and how long I've loved archers more generally. That has led to my making a new "Is Love" banner--
12:57 pm - The Good, The Bad, and the Better Late Than Never * I have loved the Doodle Champion Island Games. It is so lovingly styled like a number of my favorite 16-bit games. I managed to get the scroll for 6 out of 7 of the mini-games. I had zero luck at Artistic Swimming. Frankly surprised I managed Rock Climbing. I was so good at falling off the Q-Bert pyramid as a kid that friends and family took to calling it a "Becky" anytime anyone fell off the pyramid. I did manage to unlock more than one level of skateboarding, running, and paddleball though. The skateboarding reminded me of many happy hours spent playing Skate or Die once upon a time.
I'm solidly in the camp not happy with Masters of the Universe: Revelation. I could get both spoilery and ranty about it, but I'd rather not. I will say I'm sure Kevin Smith didn't have some "woke" agenda he was trying to push. I believe he just told what he thought was a good story. I just happen to disagree with his opinion of the quality of the story.
The upside to my being deeply disappointed by Kevin Smith was that he did inspire me to go back to She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. I loved the original She-Ra series as a kid and watched the first couple of seasons of the reboot without it holding my attention well. I figured it couldn't hurt to try watching the seasons I didn't get to. I'm very glad I went back to it. I enjoyed the later seasons more than the first couple. I just straight binged watched the fifth season from beginning to end. Hell, I was worried about whether Entrapta would get her Hordak back, and as a fan of the old shows, I come with a lot of ingrained dislike of Hordak. So, watching MotU: R wasn't a total waste of my time. * Current Music: Bon Jovi - "Livin' on a Prayer" Current Mood:pleased
11:17 pm - Clearing Some Cobwebs * It occurred to me while watching Buck Rogers on Tubi that I put Colonel Wilma Deering in my Top Ten Favorite Female Sci-Fi Characters list so I went to have a look at it. I apparently hadn't updated it since I first posted it in 2009. It felt woefully behind the times to me so I gave it a major overhaul. I didn't throw out all my old favorites. Fully half of the women on the list now were there in 2009, though not necessarily at the same number on the list. However, I did change out half the women on the list over a decade later. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century on Tubi (I loved it as a kid, and watching it again now is still making me smile.) 4. Dragon and Thief by Timothy Zahn (With "dragon" in the title I've been meaning to try it, I'm glad I finally got to it.) 5. The Tomorrow War on Amazon Prime (I'd have loved to see it in the theater, but it still works at home.)
*Special thanks to hamsterwoman and kaffy_r for helping me finally take the leap and get into the Vorkosigan Saga. Since Aral is my favorite from the first book, I suspect I'll be all right when the POV character shifts from Cordelia to other characters. **I have watched all of Sapphire and Steel on Tubi. It didn't fill me with squee, but it wasn't like I could only watch one serial. I enjoyed Silver, Steel, and how the effects folks made use of light. It's what I consider "weird fiction" more than sci-fi or horror, like Lost and the Torchwood episodes PJ Hammond wrote. The Torchwood episode "Small Worlds" is sort of the exception that proves the rule in that I do find enough in it I like to handle it being weird fiction. I must have gotten him at the latter with a discount since Hot Topic has him listed for more than twenty, while SHS has him listed for fifteen, and I'm positive I only paid twelve.
