Happy Retirement, Deborah!

Deborah Gallaher, Director of Libraries, has decided to retire, marking the end of a remarkable chapter with Bastyr University. Deborah has a long and dotted history with Bastyr University, as she assisted with the University’s move to the Kenmore location, and interned under Jane Saxton, former Director of BU Libraries.

In August 2023, Deborah returned to Bastyr as Senior Librarian and was promoted to Director of Libraries in October 2024. Throughout her 35-year career in public education, she has been guided by a simple ethos: “emotions are the juice of learning.” She carried that philosophy into her leadership at Bastyr.

As she looks toward retirement, Deborah is excited to remain active, spending time bicycle touring, fly fishing, and rowing with a local Seattle club. Deborah will remain a volunteer on Bastyr's IRB and Research division.

Additionally, chapters address emotionally sensitive and socioeconomic-related issues such as skin bleaching and dermatological manifestations of HIV/AIDS, an infectious condition that disproportionately affects those residing in sub-Saharan Africa."

New Issue of Convergent Points Journal - Run by Bastyr Staff, Faculty, and more!

Check out the new issue of Convergent Points, "Step by Step," a series of case reports. This journal is an online, open access, peer reviewed publication dedicated to acupuncture and Eastern Asian medicine practices. The Convergent Points editorial board includes some of the most knowledgeable and respected experts in case reports and research in the country. Currently, Bastyr doctoral students are learning about research and publishing through research preceptorships with Convergent Points, as well as making valuable contributions to the journal and the profession.

Get access to databases, journals, and eBooks as an alumni with HEAL-WA, a suite of evidence-based suite of resources for eligible professionals licensed in Washington State. All you need is to be licensed in WA (not necessarily living there), and make a HEALWA account.

It can be difficult to discern whether journals are legit or "predatory." We have recently created a quick guide with tips on vetting journals and red flags to look out for. This includes looking for certain title spellings, grammar errors, fake links, and much more. HerbTV from the American Botanical Council Officially Launches on YouTube!

Check out ABC's new YouTube channel, HerbTV! This channel is the home of more than 180 educational videos on medicinal herbs and related health and wellbeing content and includes interviews and in-field tours with renown herbalists, botanists, and ethnobotanists. To provide easy access to the educational content on the channel, HerbTV features playlists organized by category and health conditions, as well as ABC’s new Adopt-an-Herb videos, videos and webinars on herbal sustainability, and sources outside of ABC, including the public television series Healing Quest, “The Medicine Hunter”, and others. New content is being added weekly!
