Fanvid

I know this community is really old and dead but I've been on a HIMYM kick and made a vid and need a Swarkles safe space to share it

Just recently i found out about a "Ask Me Anything" Carter Bays made on Reddit in 2022. Well, some of his answers about the ending, and about Barney, shows how much he is still butthurt by the fact that people hates his AU ending, and that people loves Barney more than his self-insert Ted. These are some of the most hilarious parts:

- "We didn't do the aw-shucks-ain't-life-great ending I've seen a lot of other series do, and I'm proud of us for taking that big swing. I have a lot of love for the ending we aired, and more importantly a lot of love for the people who love it." (So basically he says,if you loved the ending,i love you, otherwise,f**k you! Lol)

- "A reunion? I don't want to know what's next." (Of course! You already wrote your dream ending with your self-insert,the "Nice Guy" staying with Robin,of course you dont want to touch that!)

-Then,he admits "we didn't really have any sense of how much chemistry Barney and Robin would have." (The thing that almost destroyed his Ted-Robin plan!)

- Then,he proceeds to try to "cancel" Barney,as he hates the fact that he is more popular than Ted. Actually,at first he admits that many "evil things" Barney said or did are actually just exagerrations from Ted or things that are just made for comic effects that should not be takes as canonical:
"Yes I think they're exaggerations. I mean it kind of gets to this Brechtian thing where really the whole show is an exaggeration. Real bars have four walls. Real people don't pause for laughs from the laugh track. And likewise, what the characters say isn't always exactly what was really said. The whole show is aware that it's a performance, a story being told for an audience. So no, you don't have to believe any of that stuff if you don't want to."

-But then,he proceeds to "cancel" Barney using the classical "modern sensibility" excuse.Thats what he says:
"I always get in trouble when I say things that rile up the fanatical Barney apologists (??) out there. But yes, I think Barney was a womanizer. He was a flawed guy. Funny, loveable, but flawed. And I think Ted at least did his best to be a pretty good guy. But that's just me. (So,he says: Ted at least was a nice guy11 but you guys didnt like it enough! Shame on you!! Lol)

-Then,when someone asks him about Lily's bad behavior in some situations during the series,he cant resist anymore and shows all his hatred towards the popularity of Barney:

"Aw, I love Lily. I think she's good people and tries her best. And just to say it, I'm always amazed and impressed at how Barney just skates on by in these discussions of "okay but which character was the actual worst." Barney confessed to human trafficking. It's a joke we definitely shouldn't have done and in hindsight we should probably edit out, but it's there. (But didnt he earlier said that some things are just exagerattions,so not canonical??) NPH is so charming, it's 100% to his credit that Barney is so much fun and so damn likeable, but in terms of which character has caused the most damage in the world, how is this even a debate??
To put it another way that answers your question, if Barney is walking around not in prison in 2022, Lily is not the only one who escaped punishment."

So,yeah, thats all. The vibe that i got from these Bays words is that he is still butthurt over the fact that people hated his terrible ending, and that his self-insert is the actual evil guy,and the character he wrote to be the "evil one" is actually the most popular one! And of course he hates the fact that Barney//Robin will always be more popular than Ted/Robin. He and Thomas basically didnt manage to do anything since HIMYM ended (many failed tv pilots) and honestly,if they still havent learned anything from their mistakes in HIMYM,they deserve this.
As much as i loved seeing Barney again,i think the way the HIMYF writers wrote him was awful. Why treating him like a rapist or something similar? It was a "sjw-style" writing of Barney, and i didnt like it at all. I get that the writers might think that modern audience would see Barney in a different way in the 2020s (altough i'm not really convinced by this. Sure, there are many controversies on the internet, but the mainstream audience still consider Barney a great character and he is still hands down the most popular HIMYM character) but,if the writers are uncomfortable in writing his womanizing actions (and also,i guess they wanted to be coherent with the finale, where its hinted he isnt a playboy anymore) just ignore that side of him,but still write Barney as the charismatic and challenge-loving person he is! Write his interaction with Sophie with him making other jokes about money or something else, and then the conversation ends up on her father. Why making him like a creep, with also a device on his leg? That was absurd in my opinion. I also got the impression that NPH didnt really know how to play this version of Barney, altough he was professional like always, but he probably knew too the writing wasnt good at all. Also,no reference at all to Robin! That was a bad thing too of course. Also because Sophie met Robin too so it would be nice if she would connect the two were friends (and something more). So really,as much as it was good seeing Barney again,i expected something better than what we got. This is probably the last time we see Barney in HIMYF,but i hope that,if a HIMYM reunion happens, they would write a better version of what a "modern" Barney should be. Because this version they wrote here doesnt work at all in my opinion!

:Ahem:

Okay, then. I am fresh off the first season finale of How I Met Your Father, and we have a couple of developments.

A) Sophie went to MacLaren's. I thought I couldn't have any ore feels then, but who do we see? Hey, Carl! Okay, this could not get any...

B) Roin Scherbatsky? Is that you? Um, yes it was. Really interesting to see her solo, in a pensive mode, and interested in Sophie's romantic issues. Not something I would have expected but at the same time, strangely right. I knew something was up when we saw The Captain and Becky, and now I am invested in HIMYF. Robin does indee dhave experience with an early I love you, but that's one small piece of the puzzle. Intereted to see what season two brings for future cameos/references.

I guess you all already did read in the last few days that Hulu ordered a 10-episodes season of 'How I Met Your Father' with Hilary Duffy to star as the main character, named Sophie. The showrunners wont be CB and CT but sadly it seems they will be 'active' as executive producers, and not there only by name,so they could still write some episodes here and there. But hopefully they wont! By the way what are your thoughts on this? Will you watch it? Is there hope for this show to be set in the same universe of HIMYM,and give us some Barney and Robin cameo? Hopefully they will take this route, setting this show in the same universe of HIMYM would be legendary!

What do you think about it?
Last night Carter Bays was just commenting Game of Thrones, when suddendly, probably frustated because people were comparing some controversial Game of Thrones decisions with the terrible HIMYM ending,he made a thread 'Ted Mosby-style' where he acts like the classic 'Nice Guy'. He deleted the tweet some hours ago,but you can still find the many replies that people were giving to his thread. Basically what he was saying was comparable to the Ted's monologue in the episode 8.13 (Yes,the terrible 'Robin should be with me' one). He said that people are wrong when they prefer the 'bad cool guy' over the 'nice guy' and that redemption stories are unrealistic. So yes he was defending the destruction of character development he did in the HIMYM ending, basically saying that 7 seasons of Barney's character development were unrealistic. Unbelievable! And he even bring politics into it,saying that people who believes in redemption stories were 'responsible for Trump'. I just can't believe it! I think in that moment he let out all the anger he still feels because people 'didn't understood his great masterpiece' (aka a nerdy Ted/Robin fanfiction). He never learns, doesnt he?

Series Finale Clues that were overlooked

I've noticed some small things that foreshadowed the failnale. We may have noticed some of them but I forget.

In 7.13 (Tailgate) there is a tombstone that reads "MOTHER".

Also, in 6.20 (The Exploding Meatball Sub), there is a flashforward where Barney pretends to be ill. It's clear that Cobie was instructed to hide her left ring finger but it is seen that she has no ring. I believe we discussed this lack of ring in 6.20 and in a flashforward in 8.16 Bad Crazy but unless Robin is in on the joke in 6.20 which she doesn't seem to be then it is consistent with what unfortunately did happen which is the B/R divorce.

There are other hints discussed like in 8.20 and 9.19.

P.S I haven't been on here in a long time and only watch episodes occasionally but I miss the community here and what the series was like before the finale.
The 'revival fashion' reached the sitcom genre too,and its probably the best genre in which this 'revival mania' is doing quality-wise. Will e Grace was already renewed for two more seasons, and Roseanne received good critics so far. Both the revival have something in common: they decided to ignore their respective ending,or in some cases the entire last season, and are now continuing the story in another way. I think we all know that,if there is a series who would really need to 'delete' canon-wise its ending or even the entire season 9,its How I Met Your Mother! So,if in a year or two they decide to do a HIMYM revival, where they ignore the ending and we continue the story since June 2013 (or they could do a little timeskip to make it in 2020 or something) or even ignoring the entire season 9 and continuing the story since some weeks before the Barney/Robin wedding, would you like it? I would love it! Tell me what you think about it.

Swarkles Symbol?

Okay, so, the yellow umbrella is the symbol for Ted and Tracy's love story, the blue French horn is for Ted and Robin. Ted, by himself, gets red cowboy boots. We see "suit," we think Barney. For Robin, it's a maple leaf/Canadian flag...but what image would we put to the B/R pairing?

I'm working on a fic tracker for my planner, and wanted to include an image that suggests or symbolizes the pairing, but drawing (no pun intended) a blank at the moment. Suggestions welcome.

'Friends from College' discussion thread

Are you watching it? I'm really liking this series,Cobie is great in it,and there's also a dynamic in the series that reminds me a lot the one between Barney and Robin. I'm talking of Lisa (Cobie's character) and Nick. They're really similar to our Barney and Robin (but of course nothing will be like the original).
It's baaaaaaaaaack. Due to ff.net's character limit, and my own predilection for long chapter titles (thankblame eeendje, as it's all her fault) there are two slightly different titles, for exactly the same content. Pick the platform you like, and read on.

Title: Forever at Last
Chapter: 30: The Difference Between Falling Stars and Satellites
Summary: A chance encounter at Ted and Tracy's wedding gets Barney and Robin thinking about the past...and the future.

Happy Anniversary, Barney and Robin

End of the day here, and eeendje reminded me what day it is, so thought I'd pop in and blabber. 2017 may not be the happiest year for Barney and Robin (first year post-divorce in finale-world, for those who recognize it) but a good year for Barney's lungs (his last cigarette ever, for real this time.) For the fandom? Good question. There's been talk of the powers that be, being open to a revival, though the cast is doing rather well in their current projects, but that does speak to how, when the show was good, it was very, very good, and, for me, B/R was a huge part of that.

Three years after the show went off the air (four years in the lives of the characters) and, while yes, we have become smaller in number, I'm still glad to have our own gang here in this comm. If the show can spend a whole year on Barney and Robin's wedding, we can spend a weekend talking about them.

To steal from Inside the Actor's Studio, if you could have designed any future you wanted for Barney and Robin, where would Barney and Robin be right now? What are they doing on their anniversary this year? I'm still not sure if it was a good idea to watch the trailer for Cobie's new show, Friends From College immediately after watching the Love Actually mini-sequel, but...hm, wait, idea forming...it put me in a "where are they now" mood. It's much easier for me to imagine Barney and Robin still being together, than divorced and without contact (or caring) and I wish we'd been able to see that. I wouldn't mind dropping in, a few years down the line, to see how they're doing, still together, still happy, definitely not "settled down" in the traditional sense; they'd still be them, and I love that.

B/R remains one of my top ships, because they're not perfect. They're messed up and weird and kind of crazy sometimes, and, in my mind, they're going to keep on being that way, no matter how much time has passed. Will they have problems? Yes. Fights? Yes. Come back to each other? Also yes. That's how they roll, so happy anniversary, B/R, and here's to many more.

CBS passes on both new Bays/Thomas shows

Source: http://www.spoilertv.com/2017/05/cbs-passes-pilots-perfect-citizen-real.html

It seems CBS passed on both new Bays/Thomas pilots,"DiStefano" and "Real Life". I know we wouldn't have watched anyway, but i think now they will be forced to admit how much they damaged their career with the terrible HIMYM ending. They've put their egoes before the sake of the story, and now they're paying the price for that. Meanwhile, the cast keeps working. The new Netflix series with Cobie,"Friends from College" will be released by Netflix in July,so that's great. And the Josh Radnor pilot for NBC,"Rise",was ordered to series.
Almost three years ago,the Failnale went on air,and it changed our look at HIMYM forever. To "celebrate" this date,i thought to open a topic to talk about it. Here's a few questions to start the topic (but the conversation is free,of course):

-Has your feelings on the finale changed? Are you still angry? Or you don't care anymore?
-Was season 9 a good season overall,or was it completely pointless?
-Who is currently having the better career after the ending? And why are Neil and Cobie? :D
-Will you give another chance to Bays and Thomas with their new series,to see if they learnt from their mistakes,or are they "dead to you"?
-Do you think we will see a reunion someday,or it will never happen?

Like always,i apologize for the bad english :D But let's talk!

Fanfic

Because of the recent uptick in traffic here, I thought I'd advertise that I'm still updating my fic.

Title: A Butterfly Flaps Its Wings
Chapter: 49: Moving Day
Rating:  T
Summary: Small changes can cause big ripples, starting on the night Robin first walks into MacLaren's.  Barney/Robin focused AU based on the butterfly effect.

fanfiction meme????

aka I AM BORED ENABLE ME.

I thought it might be fun to do a sort of mini fanfic meme! A bunch of us here write fic, and I at least love filling random requests — so like, basic rules apply?

1. Leave a comment with a 'fic scenario/prompt/single line/whatever.
2. If you see a prompt you like, write something — anything from one sentence to 100k words — using that prompt.
3. Multiple fills are okay! Multiple prompts are okay!
4. I get off my ass and write fanfic and pretend it's a meme!
