09:53 pm - /r/Place
As with most things on the internet, it's addictive. It's also fun to see what all has appeared there today.

I personally am spending time keeping the Dortmund and the Iggles places nice. I don't even like the Eagles. I just like to belong, and those are the closest things to my places.

Even more than placing a pixel every five minutes, I am enjoying reading about all the plans and the pleas and such going on in /r/de wrt taking over France, not taking over France, building an EU, etc.

Last night, I was thinking how much I hate April Fools day, but between this and the google maps Pac Man thing from last year, April Fools sometimes is awesome. I could be swayed. One pixel at a time.

10:40 pm - 30 for 30
Every time I think that a I would not be interested in a 30 for 30, I run it in the background and I am enthralled.

Except tonight, when I'm watching the Requiem for the Big East, a topic, I should ostensibly even care about and is totally reminding me of days gone by, but it is boring me to death!

But life is funny like that. If you asked me a year ago, would I be cancelling Nashville pass and putting Supernatural back on the DVR? No! And yet, here we are.

10:10 pm - Woot!
Fox Sports has hired Kate Abdo to do their soccer hosting. I saw her when I turned on the FA Cup on Wednesday and my heart did a little jump for joy and then there she was again tonight on the Bundesliga.

THIS GIVES ME MORE JOY for two reasons.

1a) The guy they had doing their lead-ins to the games was terrible.
1b) Kate is opposite of terrible and give that she speaks fluent German (in addition to Spanish, French and her native English) I look forward to her pronouncing shit!!!

10:48 pm - Rogue One
I finally saw it. My friends and I were the only ones in the theater, but that just meant we could shout at things at the screen. And sing.

Star Wars, nothing but Star Wars.

11:42 pm - Things that make me happy
1. My hat. (warehouses in winter are cold, yo!)
2. Michael B. Jordan (finally started to get around to watching stuff on my amazon prime account instead of spending time accumulating stuff to watch.) So I watched Creed and an I'm in the first season The Wire.
3. Coach and Mrs. Coach. (see #2. I can'think of him without coach. And Nashville's started up again.)
4. Sporting plans.
5. My Christmas tree. I finished decorating on the 27th or so. That sucker's not coming down for a while!
6. Baker Street Blue. I can't stop staring at my nails. And then wrt #1, I tell people, "look, my nails are turning blue!" in hopes that they laugh, "hahahah" and then say, "OMG, that is my favorite blue ever!!!" And I say, "thank you! I just love it so!"
It rarely gets past the first part..

Sigh.

10:40 pm - Songs of 2016
To be fair, 2016 will always remind me of the year I didn't mind Justin Bieber and I loved twentyone pilots and I cursed getting in the slowest hot dog line ever every time I heard Imagine Dragon's Warrior from the concessions rather than the stands, but here are my top ten songs I bought in 2016 that were actually released in 2016 in no particular order!

Lots of songs, well, 10Collapse )

10:47 pm - SPORCLE IS JUST AS STUPID
Do you guys ever get addicted to Sporcle quizzes too? And think, yes, I would like to name all the lyrics to A Space Oddity. Or, sure, I can pick out all the states of the US without borders. How about Wheaties Box athletes?!

SOMEONE STOP ME FROM ON DEMAND AND SPORCLE QUIZZES. Please.

02:08 pm - It's Happening
You know, that time once a year when I wake up like a normal person, and go to sleep after watching 5 episodes of This is Us and pretty secure in the knowledge that sleep will be sacrificed until we get to the end of it.

To be honest, I don't know why I held off for so long. I came to Supernatural Smallville for Jensen Ackles and stayed for Justin Hartley. I don't always make good life choices.

09:41 pm - Food Good; Soccer Coverage Terrible
Things that are pumpkin filled:

1. You know when an idea seems good, but the combination just misses? Creme Brule Pancakes with a pumpkin cream spread between layers swings and hits a grand slam.

2. Creamed Chipped Beef on a fresh waffle, also not a bad life choice. (If life is defined by present day quality if not quantity and has no eye on the future.)

3. Fried Cheese Cake.

4. Marco Reus is coming back!

5. Christian Pulisic on your team of choice increases by 350% the chances that Borussia Dortmund will feature on TV in the USA.

6. A 1457 Nidoqueen just spawned in my living room.

+++

Things that are not pumpkin filled:

1. Bein Sports really is terrible in their soccer coverage from announcer to camera coverage to lets-show-hot-women-during-technical-difficulties-wtfffff?

2. I mean, they even make Fox Sports look good in comparison. And Fox has a guy who consistently mis-pronounces Bürki as Bürkle when introducing the teams.

3. You would thing with the wall to wall Christian Pulisic team coverage they would, oh, spend five minutes on how to pronounce his teammates' names? I mean, his job is to read 22 names out prior to a game. This is what he gets paid to do.

4. Then again Guardian and BBC both ran the same story about Sokratis' pants being pulled down video link here and both of them said it was Kyriakos Papadopoulos even up to 24 hours after the event when it was clearly Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

5. I sometimes feel the rest of the world does not follow Borussia Dortmund as closely as I do.

6. I will reach level 40 of Pokemon go in 5 years at my current pace.

09:54 am - Things I Can Agree on
Whoever thought it was a good idea to have a commercial about a guy snoring? I mean, I get he is snoring the gear shifting in his fancy car, but it sounds like snoring, and it sets off all my "OMG, I WILL NEVER SLEEP AGAIN" buttons. I can not even listen to it in the background.

+++

A few months ago, I thought the older girl nieces to a Twenty One Pilots concert. They played their cover of "Can't Help Falling in Love" and the girls and I and the whole audience sang along, and I was instantly charmed. I promptly ran home and made my VVC vid.

So Death Sheep V because she is a kid, has decided that Twenty One Pilots are her favorite band. (Of course they are! My favorite band was Kiss when I was six because that's what my big brothers listened to.)

So flash forward to Thursday, and it's Family Dinner Night, and it's that time after Wheel of Fortune, after Wiffel Ball on the front lawn, right before bed, when Death Sheep wants to put on a performance.

"Put on a 21 Pilots song, Aunt Barkley!"

And the heaven's rejoiced that the Frozen monopoly is over!

---
Knock Knock
Who's there?
Nicole
Nicole who?
Nicole never bothered me anyway.
---

So I know she's looking for Tear in my Heart because no one knows what it means, we just like to sing:
The songs on the radio are okay
But my taste in music is your face

But I consider the audience, me, V2.0, Death Sheep V, Egg Roll, Mom, Dad, brother, and I felt a good old generational gap bridger would be in order. So I put on "Can't Help Falling in Love" and Death Sheep started, and after my mom came around on the idea of cover songs ("I know this song. This can't be 21 pilots!!!") we all joined in and it was delightful.

09:18 pm - Sedentary!
I've been having a most sedentary weekend where even the laptop was too far away and too heavy to lift. I'm markedly better now which means my bing watching might end tonight. OH NOES!

Things I have watched.

1. Superstore. LOVE IT. Will watch again.

2. Shetland. (season 2.) I will eat a pony if someone else out here watches this, because I feel I am the only one. That is has a third season is probably testament to my not being the only one. But if you like moody detective shows that are just homages to their settings (in this case, the lovely desolate Shetland Islands) this is the show for you! Reminds me a bit of Case Histories, and not just in a Scottish kind of way, but in that they are two hours chunks for each story and we get to know the people in the cases really well for those two hours. But the core folks remain the same throughout.

3. World cup 2018 qualifiers! Go Pulisic! Go Lallana! Go Müller!

4. Philadelphia Union game. (don't remind me.)

I am now starting on Justified season 5 because I never did get around to finishing it, and I am amazingly spoiler free! And on that fate taunting note...

07:11 pm - Where There's Smoke...
So I pulled into the gas station after work, and I saw smoke coming from a guy at one of the pumps. A quick glance let me see that it was something dark, so it was probably a vape-ny type thing? I don't even know what they are called.

But my thought process was like this:
1. This guy is either vaping or smoking an actual cigarette.
2. In order to know which one, I'd have to get closer to him and/or ask.
3. If I did that, my two choices would be to get closer to someone who smokes cigarettes at gas stations or have a conversation with someone who vapes at gas stations.
4. Appealing any way you look at it, right?
5. So I pulled right out and went to find a new gas station.

12:06 pm - It's Taylor Made for Me!
Don't mind the Taylor/Tailor, I'm in a Tami Taylor mood as I've just watched the last four episodes of Nashville in succession. Why? Because I like to do things! To excess!! And Evolve my Tami love into Rayna love!

And I like to walk.

And God knows, I just got done having the conversation about why I can't stop subscribing to new podcasts when the ones I have are slowly building up a nice backlog to listen to (over 100 hours now) and I'll never listen to them all.

So, say there was this thing where I could collect things. And they don't take up physical space in my house. And if I walk, I get rewarded with stuff. And if I say, explore the historical sites of my town, I get rewarded with stuff and I could read a reddit thread about it? And my friends are all playing?

Does this sound like something that might be appealing? Because I can tell you that if such a thing existed, I might fall head over heels for it.

I mean, the only thing that could be better is if there were like 5 Pokestops in the parking lot of the local soccer stadium...

Oh, wait.

(And now of course Europe has to ruin everything and crash the servers. THERE WAS A LOT OF STUFF LEFT BEHIND IN THE PARKING LOT OF MY FARMERS MARKET, EUROPE. YOU HAVE A LOT TO ANSWER FOR!!!! Hey, it's not my application which is up and running very fine at the moment, so I will feel free to point fingers and assign blame unknowningly.)

09:28 pm - Saturday Night...
I'm driving to the soccer game and my one friend says, "Oh, there's a Pokeman in the area." We thought it a bit odd, but sweet to be helping out her friend's daughter, and thought nothing further.

Fast forward two days later, I find myself going for my first nighttime walk in AGES and then googling how exactly to play! Because unlike when I shot the Pokeman off my coworker's head this afternoon at the conference table, it's just not working for me. yet. Tomorrow night's walk! Yes!

And I thought My Fitness Pony gamefied this fitness business...

10:58 pm - Put Your Hands in the Air Like You Just Do Not Care
It is no surprise that my last post was at the start of the Euros. I am, what you call, obsessive. BIG WONDER THAT I AM IN FANDOM, RIGHT?!

Although, I have to say, if Iceland's deep run into the Euros screws up my vacation plans with everyone else booking there before I got off my butt to go do so, I will be pissed! But I've been busy researching nautical and civil and astronomical twilights wrt northern lights and plotting that against temperature and rainfall and moon schedules, and it's a complicated algorithm. One does not simply wander into Reykjavik. Hell, once doesn't even spell it right on the first go round.

+++
Happy Fourth. For many reasons, Bayern Munich is not my favorite club at the moment, but they sure do light their stadium up pretty.

10:16 am - Euro 2016!
I have the best boss in the world who texts me to meet him at Local Sports Bar to watch the Euros kick off. And then we judged everyone else there. "Doesn't anyone else work on a Friday afternoon!?!" I saved all my stupid work for then so I could prop my laptop up on the bar whilst watching France Romania. (And of course, this morning, I'll do more work... but after Switzerland-Albania.

Because Switzerland has one of my many seekrit boyfriends on it, Ricardo Rodriguez, who I love despite the man-bun and shaved sides ridiculous haircut.

It has Johan Djourou who has the most fabulous attitude and on the other side, it also has Haris Seferovic who, the more I watch him/read about him, seems to have a shitty attitude, but he scored the first ever Bundesliga goal I saw, and will thus always be connected to that moment in time. Granit Xhaka, playing against his brother on Albania today if you hadn't heard (eyeroll on The Human Story OverCoverage even though it is fascinating) who is a little bit of a hothead (understatement) but always was so entertaining at Gladbach. And Yann Sommer who could move to seekrit boyfriend status if he ever got a haircut. (Don't ask me why some people's seekrit boyfriend status depends on their hair and other's don't. I just listen to what the seekrit boyfriend voices tell me.)

Sometimes I watch club football, and they are all, "He's a local boy done good" and I sometimes wonder what it would be like if there was no trading and it was all "local boys" and then that's when I realize that that is essentially what international football is. Now to be fair, there is still a lot of leeway as to which international team you play for (See the Xhaka brothers on different teams) my God, is it ever helpful in transitioning from the world into which I was born (the one with Yugoslavia) and the one we are living in now.

Also now that, as of May, Kosovo is recognized as a part of FIFA, players are allowed a one time change (if they qualify) since the country they would have played for didn't "exist" when they became international players, I get the reinforce even more knowledge of what is where and who is still pissed off at who.

Also, dude on ESPN does not know how the Albania song goes!! Does he know if it borders on the Adriatic?

IT IS GOING TO BE VERY DIFFICULT TO GET ALL MY WORK DONE THIS WEEK.

11:02 pm - E is for Echo?
I really like names that begin with E. This started a month ago or so as Éver Banega whooped it up in the Europa League final. But apparently, it's still going strong during this Copa as I get a small jolt of glee when they say Enner Valencia too.

09:21 pm - List
So some terribly bored people put together a list of top stadiums in the world.

List

So naturally, some work avoidant people, take issue with it! (because I've only been to five of them and while I do not feel that the number should be more, I do feel that I'd trade some other stadiums for the ones I've been to on the list. And I also feel old because there are quite a few that I've not been on the list that replaced places that I have been and have been torn down.)

Petco Park
Camden Yards
Beaver Stadium
Citizen's Bank Park
Allianz Arena

I get that history is a combination of the history of the park and of the importance the teams that play there, but both Philadelphia big stadiums are on the list despite being build in my adult lifetime. And if you are going to reward thuggish behavior and call it passion (see Phillies fans who aren't going to rid themselves of stereotypes when we are throwing beer bottles Ryan Howard this past week. On the upside, all the beer "bottles" at CBP are plastic. On the downside, would not want a beer bottle to be thrown at me no matter the material. OK, would make exception for chocolate. And caramel. Salted caramel. But I digress.) My point is if you are rewarding that and calling it passion, how are you ranking it above Galatasaray's stadium where they light it on fire.

I'm not even disputing what should be on the list (though, lo, it is plenty! Westfalenstadion, Anfield for just a few) but just pointing out that the ones they do have on this list make no sense in the order listed.

Signed, just realized have never been to the Linc. Could have changed that this weekend with USMNT vs. Paraguay, but I have to be a good Aunt instead. I am going to my first concert in years! With teenagers! TCBITW is a teenager! Send Help!)

+++

Holy moly Panama! (And why do they keep saying Messi is up next, when they all said that he won't be playing tonight.)

+++
The Guardian is running a series of articles on the run-up to the Euros focusing on the human side of players, and today's about Croatia's Ivan Perisic and about how his father sent him away to save the chicken farm is my favorite. (I've always had a soft spot for him. Because let's face it, if you hug Reus, you're on my good side.)

hug!Collapse )

10:12 pm - Wet Unlucky Guys
Feeling like a Monday, but actually, it was Tuesday. Marco Reus's Birthday.

Well, That's how it started...Collapse )

All this to say, on Friday, USMNT play Colombia in the Copa Americana Centenario, and if we end with the USWNT winning the gold medal in the Olympics in August, I might not stop watching football all summer long. Which will make it different than the rest of the year, how? (oh, yeah, for the Euros I might be able to convince my boss to have team building sessions in front of a tv. That's how it would be different.)

PS: Who wants to watch the SuperCup that Sunday at Vividcon.

Poll #2045031 Ginger Support

Yes, and I am one of them.

06:26 pm - Kids These Days
Friday afternoon in the office, we're discussing weekend plans. The ONLY young kid in the office today says he is going to go home and "netflix and chill."

I, because I read LJ and the misfortunes of others (read VonnieK) who also tried to use a term they heard around and thought it meant what it sounds like it means, burst out laughing and said, "TMI! TMI!"

He gave me a most quizzical look.

I told him to google it.

He announced he was going to look up "Netflix and chill" on urban dictionary...which he went to his cube to do...and then I heard the horrified "OH NO!!!!" over the cube walls.

It was a most delightful afternoon.

10:21 pm - It was the Leicester Times, it was the Wurst of Times
So Leicester won. Yay! Thinks about making the not fairy tale vid, but no clue how to do it. Also, I need more ram and my lack of motivation is astounding to no one. So I will settle for getting Nessun Dorma stuck in my head.

Anyway, this post is about Markus Weinzierl. (not really. I mean, he's hot and if my lack of motivation inspired me to do anything, I'd post pictures of him, so you could agree.) But it's about the rl at the end of his name and how uncomfortable that rl construction makes me feel without a silent e after it even though a SILENT e changes nothing. And yet his name feels so unfinished to me and it defies all my completist tendencies and I feel bad for imposing my english feelings all across his (and Max Eberl's) names.

My biggest fear is that one day I meet him and I confess all this to him and he backs away slowly.

AWKWARD.

11:04 am - Happiest Place on Earth
I went to Disney World this week with the weepeeps, brothers, wives, and parents. I think it can be summed up by the airport parking shuttle van driver last night. "I can now see how a Home Alone situation would happen."

And the few days before that, I went to Vegas. So I've basically spent the last two weeks walking about 7 miles a day. Am physically exhausted. But content.

+++

Why why why is Peter Pan's Flight such a long wait? (We fast passed it so we didn't wait, but I still don't understand.) OTOH, I rode with the two boys who were more impressed with their white socks in the black light than the flight over the city.

+++

Star Wars fireworks were the best!

+++

Epcot light show was also cool, but it had rained that day so the smoke from the fireworks got stuck and didn't clear.

+++

I am impressed with the Disney money making machine, the crowd control, the manipulation, the ever changing and expanding empire.

And the bubbles.

+++

Kali River rapids gets my vote as worst ride. On the upside, I did get soaked on a 90+ day, but it was too short, the drop was too tame. In comparison, Splash Mountain seemed to go on forever and ever.

+++

My favorite might still be the Frozen sing a long. Because I like to sing! And there was snow! (which reminded me of the penalty line spray in football/soccer) And I got to torment my nephew even more so than on Small World! And I got a new joke.
