About Us

Grand Gallery in Smith Hall

One of the oldest and largest liberal arts colleges in Alabama, we are recognized nationally for the number of undergraduate and graduate students who receive national awards and scholarships. Internationally recognized scientists, writers, artists, and scholars teach in our classrooms and labs, where students work closely with professors who are not only experts in their disciplines but also creators of knowledge.

Our 21 departments span UA’s core disciplines: humanities, fine and performing arts, natural sciences and mathematics, and social sciences.

International Programs

The College offers faculty and students opportunities to deepen their exploration of the world through programs in Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia.

In BCAS, faculty, scholars and researchers work alongside graduate and undergraduate students to target the great challenges of our times.

The College is home to eight museums and galleries, a half-dozen theaters and concert halls, and an impressive collection of outdoor art.
