This blog provides me with the opportunity to share my love of food.  From a very young age I was in the kitchen and thankfully my mother encouraged me.  It wasn’t until I did my graduate studies and subsequently entered the monastic life did I realized the power of the meal.  Every culture past and present has some ritual that involves a meal;  Thanksgiving Day, the Jewish Seder, and even the Eucharist.  Food both nourishes the body and the soul.

My friends often ask me why cooking is so important to me.  Well, I like it.  But it goes much deeper.  It’s the time spent thinking about what to serve, the cost, in time and finances, to obtain the ingredients, the years of travel, reading, and study to prepare the food, and finally, the ritual of eating.  It is expressive of the deepest part of my being; a glimpse of what makes me, me.

So this blog is an opportunity to share my experiences, both good and bad, with others who enjoy eating as much as cooking.  For now, I’m baking my way through cyber space.  Other pages will follow.
