AWS Game Builder Hackathon

Get started by signing up for a free AWS account. If you’re new to AWS, watch these tutorials on account set up and best practices.

AWS will provide US $20 in AWS Promotional Credits to individuals registered for this hackathon, while supplies last. You can reach out in the Hackathon Support Slack Channel to receive 1 credit code (instructions to join are listed below under support). Use these instructions to redeem your AWS credits.

Amazon Q Developer:

Amazon Q Developer generates real-time code suggestions ranging from snippets to full functions based on your comments and existing code. It also supports CLI completions and natural language–to-bash translation in the command line. Learn how to get started with Amazon Q Developer in your IDE using these tutorials.

Other services:

Beyond Amazon Q Developer, you can use any AWS services of your choosing. Some that may be of interest:

  • Use AWS Amplify to build fullstack web and mobile games using TypeScript. Deploy your app frontend or build your app’s backend with storage, data, and serverless functions.

  • Use Amazon S3 to store static assets for your game.

  • Use Amazon Bedrock to add generative AI capabilities to your game (non-free tier service).

Tutorials:

The AWS Builder ID that you signed up for when joining this hackathon gives you access to AWS Skill Builder which has 600+ free digital courses, learning plans, and more. One of the learning paths is to learn how to produce games in the AWS Cloud. There are also gamified learning experiences!

Builder ID also gives you access to community.aws, where you can connect with fellow builders. There are thousands of articles on the site that you can use as inspiration and to learn more about AWS. For example, this article shows how LLMs fare against one another when playing Street Fighter III. Use the #game-challenge tag to connect to other hackathon participants!

Support:

To get support while you are participating in the hackathon, you can join the AWS Slack community (use the #2024-game-builder-challenge channel), or you can post your question on AWS re:Post.

Inspiration:

While a demo video isn’t required, we highly recommend you make a short video that’s less than 3 minutes demonstrating your project!

  • It should include footage that shows the intended interaction with your application.

  • It should be uploaded to and made publicly visible on YouTube or Vimeo, and a link to the video should be provided on the submission form on the Hackathon Website.

  • It must not include third-party trademarks, or copyrighted music or other material unless the Entrant has permission to use such material.

Your game can be as simple as a Tic Tac Toe game built with HTML/CSS/JS or as complex as you can imagine!
