The HD of my macbook went into failmode on tuesday, which was very bad. Talked to apple and was able to take it into the apple centre yesterday. Overnight, the guys got as much of my data off it as possible. There were some corrupt files (potentially corrupt because the hd was failing on them) but they got 320gb of 340gb. Which is pretty good, I feel.
Now it's like having a new comp. Annoying that I have to reinstall programs, but great that I'm starting with a clean slate and can organise things from the ground up.
Also, NOTE TO SELF; DON'T PUT OFF USING TIME MACHINE ANYMORE, DAMNIT.
So... yay. And it looks like my fic was recovered. Phew, man.
Although i'm still RIDICULOUSLY slack with this lj (i jump on tumblr now and fuck around), I wanted to say that I'm writing again. and i'm having FUN with it.

So I'm poking around the Buffy Confessions tumblr account, and someone posted a confession that they would've loved to have seen Angelus with a behaviour modification chip in his head.
This is the fucking best idea ever. Does this fic already exist? If so, where? If so, is it any good?
THAT is what I'd love to read.
All my super strong joss feelings are coming back now I'm rewatching my shows. And it's just pummeling me so bad that these are my favourites and nothing I've watched since makes me crazy like them. Doctor Who gets close, but it's not quite there. And if the new season doesn't improve, it never will be.
So many plotbunnies are coming out of reading this tumblr. Seriously.

10 year anniversary of working at my theme park today. Kinda cool :) Doesn't feel like 10 yrs...
wish it had been a nicer day, but that couldnt've been helped. Still, i got phone calls from my hr rep, training manager and photo manager. girls from hr are planning something that they want to discuss tomorrow... intriguing....
Anyway, that's it. I totally didn't remember the date I started until I got told today. Oops :)
So a few years back, I decided I'd be totally awesome with a tablet, and should totally have one. I researched them, was a frugle shit and found a great deal on a Wacom Intuos 3, 6x8 size, which was large. Cost me maybe $500+. I got it... tried it for a bit... didn't pick it up straight away, put it in a drawer never to play with it again.
When I started going to the HOTD seminars, they had a rep from wacom there with all the cool new tablets. I was frustrated because i knew that I never gave it a chance, but wasn't willing to give it another straight away. The guy then said something very clever to me as I spoke to him, something that instantly gelled with my brain - the four corners of the tablet pad, are the four corners of your screen. When you move the pen around, picture that, and it'll work.
That got me fired up to give it another go, so I went home last year all revved up to try and... i couldn't find the pen. It had been separated from the tablet.
Found it some months later and reunited the two, then promptly forgot about it.
Cue this year's hotd, and i see all the tablets there. The rep shows me how to do some exercises with them, getting your eye in to use it accurately. I pick up these exercises within one minute or so. Energised, I haul my tablet out again to find.... not working.
Take it back in on the last day of hotd to speak to the rep... seems the tablet is fine, but the pen is fucked. Won't know for sure unless i test it with another pen though. However... the pens are specific to the style of tablet, and they had intuos 4 pens, not 3. So i couldn't test it.
He put me in touch with another photographer at hotd who had an intuos 3 and the pen, and we got together after running errands at macca's at coorparoo to see. Instantly her pen works, so at least i know i just have to replace it. Then she starts teaching me a few other things, like how to hold the pen, how to drag my knuckle over the tablet pad to keep its place...
it's now 1am and i've been using the tablet for hours. Accurately.
I am chuffed as anything, and very pleased with myself.
she gave me her pen as a loaner while I get a new one. I cannot believe i've been editing my photos using not even a mouse, but my track pad. How shite. My dexterity has always been best with penlike tools, now i can transfer that to the computer. So excited :D
Thus ends my boring update on tablets. ciao ciao all.
So with work full of people, and very busy, this morning I pick up a safety step at work and a juvenile red-bellied black snake falls out of it.
It immediately starts moving incredibly fast towards the people having a koala photo, as well as my friend josh who has the koala. They were about 2m away. I was talking loudly, telling everyone to move away (though i never used the word 'snake'... i didn't want to broadcast it to the rest of the large line).
It quite literally got right to the FEET of the chinese couple standing there, but it didn't strike. It backed off, during which time Josh shepherded them out of the way. The snake then made its way underneath the shelves/boxes we use for people to put their bags in.
Once it was under there, I became remarkably clear-headed. I got tim to get a broom and stand by just in case it decided to come out again. Got deb to call chris on the two-way, and we continued to do photos on the side with tim as spotter. Chris arrived a few mins later, caught the snake with no fuss (to a big round of applause that so embarrassed him), and it was all over.
Seriously massive spike of adrenalin... and i was skittish for the rest of the day! But I was very proud of how I conducted myself. The moment I saw it, my nightmare was that it bit someone.
The only thing I'd potentially second-guess myself over is that when I first saw it, my first instinct was to throw the safety stool on top of it. It's hollow so it would've trapped it. But i a) didn't want to run the risk of hurting it by missing and b) didn't want to make it angrier. As it was, it was scared, but it didn't actively try and be aggressive. I think that would've tipped the scales for it being aggressive.
Either way, everthing worked out. Scared the shit out of me, but it was all good.
I recently found a msg from someone who'd seen my Pound photo in baaaabyanimals and the zoo borns website and was asking for permission to use it in a daily cute animals app... they only sent it 3 months ago -_- crud.
Well, I've replied, I hope it's not too late.
Yesterday was my birthday. It was awesome. Day before was party stuff at work before big dinner with a shitload of people. It was fuckin' awesome. Photos of that may follow, if i can be bothered.
but for now, I will leave you with instagram pics of animals!
( 4 koalas and a turtleCollapse )
Super huge busy few weeks or so... Finishing up chinese new year, fighting not getting sick, photoshoot with krista and patrick, 3 days of intense photo seminars at hair of the dog (which were fucking AMAZING), lari's farewell, catching up briefly with augustuscaesar....
lots of stuff!
got a pedestal/tower-type fan for my room, so i can have the fan on without it giving me a sore throat because i breathe through my mouth. I got told this is because I'm a pisces, I like to gape like a landed fish :) I also, after seeing a really good deal on an ipod touch, and since I killed mine a while back, mum convinced me that I should be kind to myself and get it because I've just about paid my car back.
Only problem is I can't seem to sync the music from my old computer... i wonder if it's because this is the newest ipod, and my imac is the last of the chips before the intel chip. It plugs into my mum's imac and my macbook pro easily, just doesn't like my imac.
Have an awesome birthday party to go to tomorrow, but i have to be steampunk-y. Well, I'll do my best.... not my area of expertise, however...
speaking of birthdays... mine's coming up in a couple of weeks. Have no idea what i'll do for it, but will def. get together with some friends. And get dolled up, definitely. :D
There's a big post coming about phantom of the opera and love never dies. I'd appreciate the opinions of anyone on my flist who has seen them/has an opinion. I have a few, surprisingly!
Also, been youtubing lots of different phantoms... the final lair scene makes me cry every time. consequently, I've cried a lot this evening :)
it's kind of insane how viral the picture i took of kate holding pound has gotten. I've seen it on the zoo babies site, then on qld tourism facebook page, numerous cheezburger sites, and now featured on ebaumsworld.
flooding was so 2011.... and yet....
lots of parts of the coast are going under water. I didn't go into work today because we were so quiet the day before, and driving into work was rather dangerous. Will go in tomorrow, wonder how it'll go.
This is me attempting to update more often! it's working!
Biiig photoshoot on saturday, so looking forward to it.
re: megamind, i think i found some replacement blank buckles that won't break the bank. And yes, i think i'll be paranoid enough to buy two this time.
but this time i have the rain to listen to and get me to sleep. mmm.
not sure if i'm going into work tomorrow. if we have enough people, i've asked if i can not go in. it's only for 5 hours, and driving an hour roundtrip on the highway with this heavy rain we're experiencing isn't good. the idiots don't drive any better in the wet, sadly. Won't find out until tomorrow though, so have to get to bed at a decent hour just in case.
thurs is australia day and i'm working. have been invited to a couple of parties, but particularly if the weather's still like this, i'll give them a miss. I have a persistent crappy cough right now, and want to try and stay out of the wet and get rid of it.
friday i'm feeding kato, and then seeing the muppets (again) with phil. yaay. I loved the movie. I love how it brought a bunch of burly male friends of mine in their 30's to tears. totally awesome.
I answered more outstanding emails tonight, but still have a few more to do tomorrow.
ALSO omg i love the internets. I was looking up how to tether my camera to my computer for the photoshoot on saturday... found it would work easier with lightroom 3. got lightroom 3 in about 3 seconds, tested the tethering system today, works like a dream. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
ok. while it's raining so beautifully still i'm going to try and sleep. g'niiiiight.
been staying up late the last few nights... which has been rather silly. I just seem to get distracted by working on stuff or replying to messages/emails late at night. which is silly.
i need to sleep.
chinese new year going well so far. all the regular awesome tour guides are coming in. this is good.
whose line is it anyway is fun to watch late at night... but there is a distinct difference between the UK and the US versions. I saw the UK versions first, then the US. The quality of the performers and the comedy is on par, I believe, the big difference is in the audiences. The UK audiences laugh at all the funny stuff, and clap and cheer at the REALLY funny stuff. The US audience cheer and whoop at the funny stuff, and lose their shit at the REALLY funny stuff. Usually i miss the next line of what's happening, and that annoys me. Boo.
meanwhile, so much love for wayne brady and greg proops.
and i think drew carey does a really awesome job at host.
but the american audience really needs to calm the fuck down when a hoedown is announced.
meanwhile meanwhile, i love learning things, and found a tutorial as to how to tether my camera to my comp for shooting and loading the images directly into lightroom. This is going to be awesome for the photoshoot i'm doing this saturday. yay.
ok. really realy need sleep now, i'm just being ridiculous.
I'm so lazy with this thing now! But honestly, it's not as though I post on facebook or twitter pages with any kind of regularity.
Been a busy month of work. Chinese New Year is fast approaching, which means busy busy busy.
Also, I've finished all the larger parts of megamind's costume. The cape is complete and it looks fucking AMAZING. I'm so happy with it. I have to put velcro dots on some bands that go around the boots and gloves to make sure they stay in place, punch a few extra holes in the boot straps, re-glue a bit of the clasp on the pauldron, oh, and remake the belt buckle. Ooh, and wash the pencil lines off the inside of the cloak.
The collar looks even better than I could've imagined, I am so pleased with how it sits, it's quite brilliantly perfect.
Meanwhile, had fun last night because tangerinedreams is leaving the country. Boo to that :( But yay to fun :)
