Mission Statement and Objectives

The following mission statement and objectives are preliminary and will be updated in co-production with community stakeholders.

Mission Statement

The Autistic Substance Use Network is dedicated to improving understanding of Autistic substance use to influence policy, practice, and treatment to ensure appropriate and effective support for autistic people. ASUN strives to fill the current gap in practice and research, working to improve understanding and promote change.

Objectives and Commitments

Research and Knowledge Generation
Actively engage in and support relevant research on Autistic substance use.
Build and facilitate an advisory group to assist with academic research.
Commit to increasing high-quality knowledge and understanding among key stakeholders and the general public.
Publish a comprehensive report on the findings of the network’s research, including previously unpublished data, in accessible formats that shall be free to view.

Knowledge Exchange and Dissemination
We shall develop and maintain a website with resources, signposting information, and plain-language summaries of research findings. Findings and resources shall also be shared through social media, for wider visibility and knowledge dissemination.
Offer expertise at conferences, policy forums, and speaking events.
Explore collaborations with other organizations, including the voluntary sector, to address the intersectional needs of marginalized groups.

Advocacy and Policy Influence
Impact policy and practice related to Autistic substance use treatment.
Champion the needs of multiply-marginalized groups within the autistic community.
