I went to the local grocery store yesterday and many of the shelves were bare again. I know at the beginning of the quarantine there were bare shelves. But now? Is it starting again? This hoarding of food and supplies? It gave me a little tingle up my spine as I wandered around and stared at the empty shelves.
Is it time to get an extra package of paper goods just in case? I mean, it’s not like I won’t use them (nor am I a hoarder so fear not)! I won’t be buying up all the cleaning supplies and paper goods like a prepper. I’m just wondering…
Because if there is a second wave of the virus as predicted and the shipping companies are having difficulty delivering, we may be in for a more difficult time the second time around. It hadn’t occurred to me until yesterday when I was dumbfounded by the scarcity of some products that had come back to the shelves after a brief hiatus.
I don’t think we’re out of the woods yet. I’m sorry to say that, but I’m open to hearing how it is where you live.
And what you’re thinking…because it has me a little on edge again. How about you?

We’ve never had fully stocked cleaning supplies since March. Occasionally I can find some disinfectant wipes but very little spray disinfectant or even other cleaning products. Other people’s houses must be very clean! The paper products were available the last few times I went but I can’t always find my favorite brand. Safeway did go back to limiting the number of people in the store at one time and is only allowing one entrance open. Add that to the heat wave and thunder and lightning storm we had that caused several fires and it really does feel like the apocalypse is starting again.

Janet stay safe! That sounds awful with the fires and weather! I’m sorry. We aren’t limited in stores as much here (so far), but all are wearing masks. I’m going to try again tomorrow so let’s see how it goes! 🙂

Things are slightly more expensive, but I can pretty much get anything, though I might need to go to a second store. Target was out of paper towels last week but the market had them

Things are more expense yes. I agree! But I went to the store again today and no paper towels in a different store. I guess I will hope that the third store will be the charm tomorrow! Stay safe and healthy LA!

I am actually thinking if loading some extras. Not enough to supply us for a year but maybe for a month or 6 weeks? With school starting up again I’m anticipating some self-isolation protocols (each time a kid in a class is infected everyone goes home…and the whole family isolates? Is that how it’s supposed to go?)
I am uncomfortable asking other busy people to shop for us. I’d rather be prepared.
Having said that, I’ve been to a few stores but not mass retailers and haven’t seen or heard about bare shelves yet. Give it a few weeks though…

Stay safe there in Toronto! Perhaps it’s in the US (or in my area) although who knows really. I prefer to be prepared myself so I will probably buy some extras in case. Like you, things that my kids and me will use so that if we do have another lockdown quarantine here, I have something to fall back on in case.
The bare shelves were at the supermarket and it seemed to be more of a shipping issue, but still they are low on paper products.

Pretty certain that it isn’t a shipping thing but a manufacturing/supply chain issue. It has been pretty consistent for us that at least one thing (if not more) on my list is completely wiped out, and often those don’t come in stock for weeks, if at all. What those things are seem random, though. Around here some things are insanely expensive in comparison to pre-pandemic prices, any kind of meat especially. I am leaning towards prepping several more meals to stock into the freezer. Sadly, the one thing I would love to have a couple of back ups on, I can’t even get right now.

We will be back in the weeds by mid October, but this time it will be worse.
If your job is at all iffy, build up your emergency fund.
Colleges are all ready having problems. Wait for the elementary and secondary schools go back across the country.
I feel like a crazed survivalist, but I’m taking modest steps to be prepared for the worse.
If all goes well, I can still eat well!

I am not sure if the shelves are a sign of things to come so much as a sign of what people THINK is coming. But more and more I think they may be right.
