I was in the grocery store late yesterday afternoon waiting to give my free turkey to the food bank when an older man (late 70’s/early 80’s) walked past me and then turned around and tapped me on the shoulder. I turned to face his smiling face and I smiled back at him wondering why he tapped me on the shoulder and what he wanted.
So how many hearts have you broken in this lifetime? he asked me.
I was completely flabbergasted and laughed. None I replied because – What else do I say to that? I was so caught off guard. He smiled, laughed with me, and then said something I couldn’t hear and just walked away. I watched him walk about 10 steps away, stop and turn around to wave to me. I waved back.
Still standing in line by myself, I began giggling. What a crazy encounter! But it made me think that the Universe has a sense of humor. Because what possessed that man to stop and ask me that! LOL
So I ask you, How many hearts have you broken in this lifetime?
Truth be told, I was never a heartbreaker. Flirt, yes. Heartbreaker, nah. I’ve had my share of serious relationships that didn’t work out, but I was never one to toy with emotions or people’s fragile hearts. With the exception of the marriage he broke off, when I broke up with someone, it was always with kindness and compassion.
What about you?
♥
You got a compliment and you need to take it! That’s my first answer.
My second, um… maybe 2 or 3 hearts since I had 2 or 3 somewhat serious relationships before my current one. I ended all 3, so I think I probably did the hurting. But we had both changed in the relationship and they weren’t more than a few years (which is still a lot).

I don’t think we ever intend to hurt someone else when we break up. It just happens. But when you’re on the receiving end of the breakup, it can feel monstrous. I think the depth of the relationship rather than time is sometimes more important but every situation is different. I think it’s easier when both have changed in the relationship as well. Knowing you, you were kind with the ending of the relationship. 🙂

I know. You are so right. What’s that song? Love stinks? LOL But I believe in love with my heart so to me, it doesn’t stink. It’s just hard when it doesn’t work as you hope.

I totally believe in love, and my go to quote is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all!!

What a heart warming incident and beautiful compliment! I think fate was trying to give you a big nudge forward, to help you see and realise how special and attractive you are and to remind you that you still have time on your hands to fill your life and many others with happiness! Keep us posted…!

Sometimes we break a heart simply by not loving in return, or not caring enough. Sometimes it’s nobody’s fault and yet people still blame. Hearts are broken and that’s life.

True. Hearts can be broken easily. Perhaps I was too rash in saying I hadn’t broken hearts. I certainly never meant to because I know how it feels.

How special was that encounter ❣️ Surely a positive sign for the future 😊
We humans have fragile hearts that often get broken, sometimes it’s easier to blame someone else rather than face our own failures. Part of learning maybe 🤷🏼♀️
