AudioTheory Guitars is the ultimate reference tool for guitar notes and chords. Featuring a built-in keyboard, each note reacts to your input across the customisable chord and fretboard diagrams. For anyone who's ever wished music theory was that little bit more straightforward - this is the software you need. Features: -Seamlessly transcribe between piano and guitar using a straight-forward colour coding system and notation highlighting. Play a note on the keyboard, or directly from the chord and fretboard diagrams to see where it is across all formats. -Set your tuning and capo. Everything else adjusts accordingly - no need for a chord transposition chart. -Choose your chords with open, power, barre, sus2 and dim7 chord sheets with fullscreen diagrams and playback options. -Exclude notes and never play out of key again. Your fretboard diagram now only shows the notes you need and your keyboard doesn't play the ones you don't. -Full customisation. Select the chords you want. Left-handed mode for left-handed players. Set your fretboard size, number of strings, start fret and per-string tuning.

Version History A new update is here for AudioTheory Guitars. It includes the following: Contextual Sharp/ Flat Note Selector Note selectors have been replaced with a new standardised design that takes up less space. This is because each sharp/ flat note now dynamically updates to match the current display state for each note. As well as showing labels that are contextually relevant, the uniform button sizes now mean that when viewing diminished seventh chords, the harmonic roots (highlighted in light grey) line up! Scale Inspector Learn more about each scale with the scale degrees, movable do labels, Roman numerals (where applicable) and standard note information all in one place. This is accessed by first opening the scale library, and then pressing the new info 'i' icon next to one of the scales. Extended Scale Library The number of scales within the library has been increased substantially. There are new tabs for Jazz, Exotic, and Japanese. In total, 28 new types of scales have been added in. New options for scale playback Play scales ascending, descending, or both. Scales now only play across a single octave, rather than just continuing for the full length of the keyboard. And the rest: –The position of the play button has been adjusted for scales. –Auto-loading chords with scales has been streamlined a bit. Pentatonic scales now just load the standard set of major chords. Melodic scales no longer auto-load chords, and a message now displays at the top of the screen when a set of chords are loaded on scale change. –Spacing has been revised for chord names in alt note name languages –(no capo) text now no longer shows in the chord library if a capo is applied (only shows in the main view) –German note names have been added as an option within the application settings. When applied, B will display as H and B flat will display as B. 3.5.0 Feb 5 AudioTheory Guitars 3.4.0 includes the following: –A new dropdown in the application options that lets you manually configure the default values for sharps and flats –Scale highlighting support for theoretical scales –The note selector now references the sharp/ flat state of accidentals when indicating a scale match –Fixed an issue with the scale type label not displaying correctly on certain scale sets 3.4.0 10/09/2025 Just some small fixes mostly relating to the modal scales: –Fixed an issue with chords not auto-loading correctly using ionian scales –Fixed a minor display issue with the note selector –Lydian chords 6 and 7 now auto load as minor chords –Fixed an issue where custom colours would inadvertently default to light blue for all notes apart from C 3.3.1 04/01/2025 Revised keyboard design – the on-screen piano has been adjusted to match a real piano with greater accuracy. New depth effect – black keys now look like they sit above the white keys (also to help match the look of a real piano). This can be turned off in the settings if you prefer a flat, more abstract look. Custom colours for the black keys – It's now possible to set unique custom colours for the black keys. The default option is still for the black keys to automatically match the natural note colours, however this can be changed using a new dropdown in the settings. If the black keys display mode is changed over to use custom colours then you'll see an additional set of black key notes for which individual colours can be set. 3.3.0 02/28/2025 A new version of AudioTheory Guitars is here. It includes the following new features: –New Diminished 7th Chord Selector for the chord library –Harmonic and melodic minor scales have been added to the scale library Plus the following bug fixes: –Relative Roman numerals review to ensure consistent sharp/ flat information across all scales –Solfege standardisation – all notes now use Do Re Mi for fixed do –Standardisation of default sharp/ flat display across all scale types –B now displays as C flat when appropriate in scales (e.g. G flat major) –Hotkeys for swapping note language (buttons 1 – 4) now also work when viewing scale and chord sheets –Adjusted position of keyboard input overlay on black keys –Fixed some small display issues with the dim7 popup when editing a chord –Fixed an issue with MIDI input not highlighting chord notes at the correct octave in the chord library –Quick load chords label in the file menu dropdown now correctly updates to sus2 when viewed in a drop tuning mode 3.2.0 02/09/2025 Minor bug fixes for AudioTheory Guitars 3.1.2 11/26/2024 A small update for AudioTheory Guitars that includes the following changes: •Adjusted the vertical position of the note selector •Slightly larger cross icons in the note selector and quick select chord popup •Note selector scale label is now appended with an asterisk when modified. This is to support some changes made in the last update to how relative note names display, and makes it clear what scale these labels are in reference to when the scale is modified. •Fixed an issue where the screen would display stretched if the button to view the user guide was pressed 3.1.1 11/17/2024 AudioTheory Guitars 3.1.0 includes a set of changes designed to improve how the application handles relative note name formats (Degrees, Roman numerals and movable do). This update also adds in the following: –New barre chord shapes –It's now possible to view and set the not display colours by hex value in the options –Two alternate note colour sets can now be loaded directly from the options popup –The note selector (bottom left) now has a highlight effect for when you add in notes –Custom sharp and flat states now save between sessions (where as previously it was only the scale as a whole that would save) –A message has been added to the options poppet to clarify that the buttons 1–4 can be used to swap the note display language from the main application view –A message also appears on the main display when swapping note language via hotkey, just to clarify what change has been made –Hotkeys now also respond to the keyboard number pad –Clicking on a sharp/ flat chord name in the main application view now adjusts the sharp/ flat display for that note globally 3.1.0 11/09/2024 The biggest update yet for AudioTheory Guitars, version 3.0.0 adds in the Fretboard Builder as well as many other new features. It's now possible to set the number of strings, the number of notes and the start fret, as well as the per-string start note and octave. 3.0.0 07/30/2024 A small update to AudioTheory Guitars arrives today.
