TIP: Disconnect your ringer and alert volumes levels in your phone sound settings (on pre-ICS android only).
NOTE: Android 5+ replaced silent mode with priority mode.
NOTE: Android 4+ (ICS) DOES NOT let the ringer and alerts volumes be separated. Pre Android 4 phones can still separate them in the phone sound settings.
As a work around solution on ICS you can enable the adjustment of the ringtones and set your alert ringtone to "silent" for a particular profile e.g. sleep.

Necessary updates for updated SDK, you will need to accept 2 permissions:
1. the "modify system settings" permission to allow changing of the ringtone
2. the "change do not disturb mode" permission for allowing silent mode
Note: depending on your android version the vibrate mode may not work

v1.36 Basic support for Android 5 Lollipop - silent mode is replaced with priority mode, which essentially behaves as silent mode with the option to allow some interruptions.,NOTE: Stock Android 4.1+ Jelly bean has linked system, ringer and notification volumes.,NOTE: Stock Android 4+ ICS has linked ringer and notification volumes. As a work around solution on ICS you can enable the adjustment of the ringtones and set your alert ringtone to "silent" for a particular profile e.g. sleep.
