Atmel ARM GNU Toolchain is a prepackaged, open-source cross-compiler suite for developing and debugging bare-metal firmware on Atmel (now Microchip) ARM Cortex-M–based SAM microcontrollers. It combines the GNU Compiler Collection (arm-none-eabi-gcc), GNU Binutils, GDB, and the newlib/newlib-nano C/C++ libraries with device-specific headers, startup files, and linker scripts tailored to SAM devices. The toolchain integrates with Atmel Studio/Microchip Studio for Windows and also works as a standalone command-line toolchain suitable for Make- and CMake-based workflows.
