About the challenge

TIAA Client Tech Labs helps TIAA clients unlock emerging technologies to enhance and improve the ease of use and access to financial solutions. At the TIAA Hackathon, develop a comprehensive, engaging and interactive solution that leverages generative AI to engage users on the essentials of retirement savings. Additionally, the integration of games or interactive features that make the use of the solution fun and enjoyable is encouraged. The ultimate goal is to create awareness among the gen Z population around retirement and the importance of starting early in your career. Registrations open through October 25, 2023, 11:59pm MST. Any registrations received after this date will not be considered. 

Get started

All hackers will be onboarded to the Client Tech Labs AWS Platform Overview on the power of Gen AI will be conducted prior to the start of the Hack. You are required to attend trainings in person or review the training recordings prior to the start of the hackathon. Hackers will receive training in Amazon Web Services cloud computing and Google's genAI tools, at a minimum. Training dates are Oct. 30-Nov. 1, with training times nearly finalized.

FIRST PLACE:  up to 5 people from the first-place winning team will have the opportunity to receive a fully funded summer internship with TIAA with housing in Charlotte, NC. Must meet minimum requirements.

Judging Criteria

  • Criteria
    Create an interactive app using AI to teach retirement savings, compound interest, and time value of money. Include simulations for early savings impact, add fun games, and provide personalized retirement planning advice.
  • TIAA Hackathon Criteria
    User experience: How user-friendly is the app? Innovative/Uniqueness: Is the solution creative/original? Technicality: Is the code effective and well-structured? Feasibility: Is it a valuable product? Relevancy: Does it address the retirement issue?
