I have been using asksam since 1990, some how my search window that is usually below the main window after a search, seem to have stopped showing on my screen I have tried for many hours to turn the search results window back on. Any ideas?

It may be helpful to try resetting the program or checking the program settings to see if the search results window can be turned back on. If the issue persists, contacting the askSam support team may also be an option.
The answer to the question is that yes, the program will quit after the 30 day free trial, but it can be made to operate permanently by purchasing a license.
Can I download the latest version (7.0.2.143) and use it with serial number for v. 7.0.2.141? I already have a purchased the 141 version.

Yes, you can register the application with the same serial number because there hasn't been a major version change. From 141 to 143 is considered a minor change that mostly fixed bugs and added some new feature or corrected other stuff.
Developers should allow you to do this procedure, but if you encounter issues, then get in touch with them and demand your rights. They shouldn't allow any other fees or something related.

For the second part with the database, try exporting it from the version 5 and then use the Import function to bring it to version 7.
