My livejournal layout is based on and uses images from Doctor Who and Torchwood which are the intellectual property of BBC Wales and Russell T. Davies. Not me. My moodtheme is by griggharris and my friends-only banner uses a texture by colorfilter.
JK's Journal v.22: Atlantis Rising uses graphics from and is inspired by Stargate: Atlantis. The John Sheppard moodtheme is by dana_cz.
This journal is friends-only, though the occasional post may be made public if I would like people to be able to link to it. I won't necessarily add everyone who asks, but I'm always interested in meeting new people. If you'd like to read my journal, leave a comment introducing yourself.
If you are here for fic, you can find my writing on the sites linked in the sidebar, or under the tag "fic".
This post isn't really a prompt, but it's a bit of an idea of what I enjoy in fic, in case that helps!
I love characters.
Keep the characters true and I will be happy. I love anything that explores the depth and subtlety of characters. Show me those and I will love what you write.
Drama and character studies are my favourite things, but I also like action and sometimes a little bit of romance, though I'm not a huge fan of smut for smut's sake.
I love backstory. I love history. I love what makes the characters tick.
I love the relationships between friends that are as close as family. I love teams and partnerships and their dynamics and what make them work.
Any of these things will make me incredibly happy, but so long as you show me the characters I love, I will adore whatever you write.
First of all, thank you for your patience while I got my thoughts together for this letter. I'm very excited to see what you write for me! I'm a lover of character and worldbuilding, so if the characters and the world feel right, I'm sure I'll love whatever you come up with.
I'm an escapist at heart, and I love to be taken to another world or another time, whether that be the world of the high-roller inhabited by Emma and the team or the world of mediaeval Shrewsbury or the 1950s Army or the Roman Republic. Transport me and let me escape for a while, and I'll be enchanted.
I love these canons I've asked for because of the characters, and character is key for me in any fanwork. I want to be reading more about these people who I've come to love and especially the way they interact with each other. The surest way to make me happy is make me feel like I'm spending more time with these characters.
I'm a lover of drama and character studies, so something exploring the relationships between characters is always welcome. Some sort of adventure in the tone of the original canon is fun, too: running a con in Hustle, solving a problem in Cadfael, the thrill of Roman politics, or the sort of shenanigans that populate M*A*S*H would all be fascinating to see.
In general, I prefer things to stick pretty close to canon, especially ships. I don't really like smut for smut's sake. I'm not a fan of ships that have some reason they won't work in canon (for example, Mickey/Emma while they're working together when they've decided not to let that happen) or aren't true to the characters. Ships that do work with the canon and the characters, though, go right ahead!
This is just an idea of the sort of stuff I like. I'm in no way picky about genre, so don't feel restricted: if the characters feel true, I'll be thrilled.
Thank you so much, dear author. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
Title:Chasing Horizons Author: JK Ashavah Summary: "If you can't give me a yes by the time we reach McMurdo, I don't even want you". Fandom:Stargate: Atlantis Characters: John Sheppard, Jack O'Neill Spoilers: Just for the pilot! Rating: General Word count: 3382 Notes: The quote at the end is really there, on the memorial cross to Scott and his team. This fic was written as a gift for alemara. Huge thanks are due to geo_chick, my faithful sister, patient sounding board, and beta. And a shout-out to psyc2321, whose response to "there are characters loose in my brain and I don't know what to write" is "here, have plot bunnies". Not this one, but plot bunnies. Have some drabbles. Because it's easier to beat my brain into submission long enough to write a drabble than anything longer. And because in_the_blue put up more drabble prompts.
Feedback is always appreciated. Y'all were great with my last drabbles!
As usual, I don't own any of it. It's all owned by MGM, Brad Wright, and Robert C. Cooper. No disrespect intended, no profit being made, etc.
Title:Surprises Fandom:Stargate: Atlantis Prompt: Those words weren't exactly expected. Pairings: Sheppard/Nancy Characters: Nancy and John Sheppard. Rating: General.
Title:Not Forgotten Fandom:Stargate: Atlantis Prompt: Gone but not forgotten. Pairings: None Characters: John Sheppard Rating: General. Note: Contains spoilers through This Mortal Coil.
Because Valentine's Day always leaves me feeling a little mournful, I decided this sounded like fun. There may be angst involved. Expect drabble posts over the next little while.
Here are two, for a start.

Well, not nothing, it's a character study for in_the_blue's "Someone Else" writing challenge, the study of one character from another's point of view that I've been mulling over for weeks. It's also a character point-of-view of one of my favourite scenes from The Dark Knight. I'm so tempted to just not post this because, heh, it's a character sketch that's me exploring a particularly difficult relationship, not a fic as such. But I promised in_the_blue that there would be something from me for her challenge, and it's too long to post in a comment. So.
Title:Goodbye Author: JK Ashavah Summary: On the verge of turning himself in, Bruce says goodbye. Character POV from The Dark Knight. Fandoms: Batman (Nolanverse) Pairings: It's complicated. Most of the dialogue is taken from The Dark Knight. No disrespect intended, no money made.
