Because really what villain wouldn’t want to use the law to get their way. It makes them devious and and just exceptionally cruel. When I first found this list of prompts I was nearly positive my answer would be the same it always is, Ursula, the sea witch. She messes with true love, has an excellent solo, two moray eel minions who aren’t actually stupid. And hey she stole the broadway show. Yet I recently got into ABC’s Once Upon A Time, so now I must ask myself what makes a villain, a villain. Rumplestiltskin/Mr Gold, as portrayed by Robert Carlyle, is an awesome villain, who’s not really a villain. I mean he does do some questionably moral things but people come to him and it’s not his fault they don’t read their contracts before signing. He warns them, “all magic has a price,” and still he gets blamed for things. And the things the didn’t have to do with deals, like Gold beating the crap out of Mo French, yea totally provoked. He acted upon information that he had (that Maurice shunned Belle and caused her death), and that Mo stole the one thing he had left of Belle. Yea I’d beat the crap out of someone too. Especially since he thought he had protected her by letting her go.

Yea. Rumple is a piece of work, but a good villain, who has good reasons for doing what he does, and in reality he’s probably going to be the reason everyone gets saved.

Yes I am a Pride and Prejudice fanatic. This is not a secret to pretty much anyone. I love the original, I love the fan fiction, I love the new age. I really just love it. So yes Elizabeth Bennet is probably my favorite literary character of all time, but it’s a hard won position. She competes with the tragic Gollum, the cunning Cersei Lannister, the adventurous Dirk Pitt, and the courageous and noble Matthias.

So what makes her special, well for starters she stands by her convictions. She apologizes when she is proved to be in the wrong and makes a mistake. She dreams big. And perhaps most importantly she gets to live happily ever after. As I believe it was quoted in the Jane Austen, Becoming Jane…

“How does the story began?”

“Badly”

“And then?”

“Gets worse.”

And yet all the characters get exactly what they want.

That Caesar was assassinated? That Rome Fell? That Elizabeth I was crowned? That World War I began? That the Titanic sank? D-Day? Martin Luther King’s I have a dream speech? The choices are endless. I’m not sure I really know. I mean I think having seen whatever it was that landed in Area 51 would have been cool too, but I’m not really sure?

Perhaps the day and night that Atlantis sank beneath the waves. Maybe I could go find it then.

Let’s face it Hannibal Lector would make an excellent addition to any dinner party, of course I would like to live to see dessert so maybe I’ll give him a pass. I would adore Elizabeth Darcy nee Bennet and of course the dashing Mr. Darcy as dinner guests. Tyrion Lannister would be an excellent addition, and give someone for Mr. Darcy to speak with. After that, well I would want a well rounded table but I suppose….well a whaley boy but they would take up too much space so perhaps I would do Aragon and Arwen or Richard and Kahlan. Up for dibs so my guest list for dinner:

Mr and Mrs Fitzwillam Darcy, Pemberly

Sir Tyrion “the Imp” Lannister, King’s Landing and Casterly Rock

High King of Gondor Aragon and his Queen Arwen Undómiel

OR

The Seeker Richard Cypher and the Mother Confessor Kahlan Amnell

Tough calls, could also have Gandalf the White and Zeddicus Zu’l Zorander 1st Wizard

Decisions.

Sound off? Would you have dinner with from your favorite novels?

A perfect reading spot….A window seat by the seashore. A large cathedral shaped window that opens slightly, with sheer curtains to blow in the breeze. A comfortable bench seat with cushions or one of those fainting couches pulled up close so that I can listen to the seashore and watch in between the flipping of the pages. It would be even better if a storm was just starting to roll in.

Or a library like the one in Beauty and the beast, that’d be fine too ;)

What season best suits your personality?

Well…according to those hair coloring tests I’m an Autumn, but that’s just looks. I have no idea.

I like spring or as I fondly refer to it: Mother Earth’s Attempt to Assassinate me. Spring=Flowers=Pollens=I can’t breathe.

I like winter, minus the whole shoveling snow thing, I like falling snow, snow storms (as long as there’s heat), hibernating (I would if I could) and recently fallen snow. I dislike the shoveling, and the cold, and yea all that other wintery stuff. (I do love winter fashion though. Just saying, I could live in boots year round).

Summer, eh I could take it or leave it. I like the beach, I like the ocean, I like boating, I like fishing, I like the sun, I like hurricanes and awesome thunderstorms (to watch from a safe location, please people)…I like some parts of summer. I dislike the humidity, and the sweltering heat, and the heat. (It bares repeating).

Autumn, I’m really indifferent to. Changing leaves are nice I suppose. Autumn nights can be just the right temperature. All that newness with back to school feelings, Halloween….Halloween and Candy. But what suits my personality?

No idea. Probably winter. I’m the hibernating kind. I have no idea, sound off?

Well what age would you choose to relive for a week? The truth is I think I would pick one older than where I am now, but I guess that doesn’t really meet the “relive” requirement. I suppose I would like to relive being a small child again, you know maybe 7 or 8 before the teenage drama and after the not quite understanding years of small childhood. That might be fun. Maybe.

I’m not sure I’d want to relive anything quite frankly unless I got a do over. If I got a do over I’d relive being 19, wouldn’t change my major just to see what would happen, or I’d relive being 17 and choose a different university to see what would happen. Lots of what ifs, but you don’t get to make those choices so I guess I should just be happy with what was then and what I am now.

Friday August 10, 2012

Well today started same as every day this week, get up early to the cold wet nose of a full grown black labarodor who’s hungry and wants to play. After Gator was handled there was the mad dash for breakfast a shower and of course clothes. You would think than when you have to wear a uniform it would take less time to dress but no it takes longer, do these kakis look to much like the ones I wore yesterday, does this shirt still smell like fish even though I washed it three times. Morning dilemmas.

Drive in was good, little traffic although weird weather from down pour to sunshine I knew it was going to be a long day. The small spawns arrived precisely at 9:30 and it was a dash to the touch a shark before visitors were allowed in. Then upstairs for a lesson on the polar regions. Blubber activities and then the ever popular floor puzzle, with snack thrown in there somewhere. Then it was a dash the seal feeding and then to lunch for the little ones and us, ten less minutes to scarf food down because we had to be on time for the Imax. Well those that were going to see it, I ended up watching Planet Earth with one. Good episode too.

After the movie and the return of the geared up darlings it was a lesson in whales, dolphins, and seals, my favorite. Activities on eating habits and some artifacts entertained while we prepped whale mobiles to color and create. Then it was down stairs for checkout of all but five, which had to stay with me for extended. A trip to touch a shark, then the sandbox and finally back to the jellies and sharks resulted in the little ones finally loosing some energy so I could keep up. Back to the main room for pick up for them and then it was a dash to clock out, get stuff together and get home. Then eat dinner, a well balanced meal of chinese take out and a drink. I needed one.

Bed had never looked so good before.

Hm… choices, there’s always Pirates and of course the best sick day movie lineup is usually Star Wars, nothing says healing like spending all day watching six movies. Rainy days though are generally reserved for Lord of the Rings the Extended edition. I so can’t wait for the Hobbit to come out, then it can be all 5 of them! Of course BBCs Pride and Prejudice does work as well, as does White Collar episodes, but for me it’s gotta be the Lord of the Rings.

Push comes to shove I would suggest Chronicles of Narnia or even National Treasure.
