ASCOM Remote Driver Server, developed by the ASCOM Initiative, is a Windows application that lets you share ASCOM-connected astronomy devices across your local network. It exposes your telescope, camera, focuser, filter wheel, rotator, dome, and switch devices through the ASCOM Alpaca protocol, so imaging and observatory software on other computers can control them as if they were connected locally.
Designed for multi-PC setups and remote observatories, it reduces long USB runs, simplifies cabling, and enables cross-platform clients to connect over standard HTTP/JSON. The server offers straightforward device selection, live connection status, and detailed logging to help diagnose driver issues. Alpaca-compatible clients can discover the server automatically, making setup fast and reliable. Run it on a dedicated control PC or alongside your existing software—either way, you keep your drivers and hardware in one place while your automation tools run wherever you need them.
