The Complete Cellist

THE COMPLETE CELLIST

The Complete Cellist was founded by Dr. Melissa Kraut in the summer of 2020 and is now part of the Ascent Music Festival. It is based on her teaching philosophy that playing the cello is a holistic experience that involves the mind, body and spirit. TCC gives students an opportunity for exploration and growth outside the pressures of school, performances and deadlines. Lessons, seminars, body work and community are the focus of this explorative week. Dr. Kraut is joined by a team of exceptional cellists who will guide your learning and help you restore and enhance your relationship with the cello. The festival takes place on the campus of Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, OH.

Participants Receive:

  • 90 minutes of private lessons
  • Masterclasses
  • Technique Classes
  • Body Mapping
  • Yoga
  • Stretching

Sample Daily Schedule:

9:00 Morning meeting/Warm up (without cello)
9:45-12:15 Lessons
12:00-1:30 Lunch and break
1:30-3:00 Seminar
3:00-4:00 Technique class or Alexander Technique Class

Tuition and Housing:

Residential program is limited to students age 18-28.  Serious high school cellists may be accepted as day students.  There are hotels nearby for those coming from outside of the Cleveland area.

Application and Audition:

  • Applications open in GetAcceptd on December 1st
  • Priority deadline: February 6th (extended)
  • Admissions decisions for priority applicants will be sent by March 1st
  • One movement of a standard concerto and a movement of solo Bach.
