of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova
Born in Tiraspol (Republic of Moldova) at 10.12.1955 in the family of University lecturers.
1972 – graduated with a gold medal from school nr. 1 and with a mention from “A.V. Şciusev” Painting school from Chişinău.
1977 – graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the Polytechnical Institute from Chişinău.
1977-1992 – worked as an architect in the “General plans” section of the “Moldgiprostroi” Institute from Chisinau. Involved in the designing of general urban plans and detailed urban plans of cities Hâncesti, Orhei, Rezina, Râscani, Chişinău, Tiraspol, Dubăsari, Sergeevka and so on. Participated in scientific and technical-economic justification of some urban works from the Republic of Moldova and the Ukraine.
1992-2006 – scientific researcher at the Institute of Cultural Heritage of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
1993-1996 – post-graduate at “Ion Mincu” Institute of Architecture, Bucharest, „History of architecture and restoration” speciality.
1996-1998 – post-graduate at the Institute of Arts of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, “Arts” speciality.
1998 – supported the thesis of Doctor: “The architecture of Cetatea Albă medieval fortification”, becoming Doctor in Arts („Plastic art, applied and decorative art and architecture” speciality ).
2004 – supported the thesis of Doctor habilitat: “The defensive architecture of medieval Moldavia (mid. 14th century – mid 16th centuries)”, becoming Doctor habilitat in Arts („Plastic art, applied and decorative art and architecture” speciality).
2006-2012 – Vice President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
2012-until now – principal scientific researcher at the Institute of Cultural Heritage of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
Author of over 160 of scientific and science popularization works, published in the Republic of Moldova, Romania, the Ukraine, Russia, Latvia, Byelorussia, UK, Germany, etc. The most important books are: Cetatea Alba fortress. Study of medieval military architecture. Chisinau: ARC, 1998; Belgorod-Dnestrovskaya fortress. Study of the medieval defensive architecture (the Russian version completed). Chisinau: ARC, 2001; Medieval fortresses from Moldova (mid-14th century – mid-16th century). Chisinau: ARC, 2004; Art of urban planning in the Republic of Moldova, Chişinău: Tipografia ASM, 2008; Fortresses from Moldavia Principality. Painter of over 100 coats of arms, heraldic symbols and emblems of Republic of Moldova and Romania.
President of the National Commission of Heraldry near the President of the Republic of Moldova, President of the National Council of Historical Monuments near the Ministry of Culture (2011-2014), member of several government and departmental Committees and so on.
Member of the Union of Architects of Moldova, of the Association of Architects of Moldova, of “Paul Gore” Society of Genealogy, Heraldry and Archival Science from the Republic of Moldova, of the Cities History Commission from Romania, of Romania Numismatic Society, of the „Europe Nostra” pan-European Federation of Heritage, of Moldova ICOMOS, expert of ICOFORT etc.
Distinctions: “Scientist of 2008-Econom year”, 2008; The Diploma of the Council of Europe for the monograph Medieval fortresses from Moldova” (mid-14th century – mid-16th century), which came into the 10 of most requested books in the libraries of the country, 2005; International Book Fair Prize from Iaşi (Romania) for the book Fortresses from Moldavia Principality. Small illustrated encyclopedia, 2008; a number of medals and diplomas from the Republic of Moldova, Romania, the Ukraine, Turkey, and Azerbaidjan.
