KENNETH REAMS

Kenneth Reams, a native of Arkansas, was born in 1974. At an early age, he exhibited artistic talent; however, as he grew up, he dismissed and undervalued his capabilities. It was not until he met his darkest moment in life – while incarcerated under solitary confinement on death row – that he appreciated the communicative, expressive power of art and recognized his own talents.

In 2012, after spending the early 20 years of his life on death row, Mr. Reams began to nourish and develop his raw talent, using whatever he could find within prison walls to create art. He now uses his skills and eye for profound imagery to educate the public about many examples of social injustice prevalent in modern society—including the death penalty in America—through his nonprofit organization Who Decides, Inc.

Mr. Reams’ work has been shown in multiple venues throughout the United States and in Europe. His art has also been donated in support of several organizations and institutions, including Murder Victims Families for Reconciliation, the National Association of University Women – Queens Branch, the African American Studies Department at Princeton University, the Hay men Center for the Humanities at Columbia University, and the Arkansas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. As his profile grows, he intends to use the visibility to promote his goal of establishing a National Museum of Capital Punishment in America.
