About Helen
Helen C. Powell was born in the once-farm suburbs north of NYC. She has studied art history, art education and oil painting up and down the East Coast. Spending regular time in the South and the Southwest has enabled her to broaden her subject matter while expanding a style she calls “soft realism.”
Her still life paintings focus on food, vegetables and flowers, universal themes that she simplifies to remind the viewer of both their essence and their universal appeal.
Her landscape paintings focus on simplified golf course scenes, to capture the essence of that iconic landscape, as well as gardens and farmscapes.
