“Fencing: Body-Archives, Movement-Repertoires, Dance-Affinities”

In the 17th and 18th centuries, French fencing masters experimented with a new weapon, the foil (Florett), and demonstrated that it was possible to duel without killing – fencing now also became a ‘game’. In addition to aristocrats, commoners and even a few women gradually began to take up fencing. In Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s youth, as he reports in Dichtung und Wahrheit, fencing was part of the ideal education, alongside dancing, drawing, and learning languages.

In »Die Falte« macht G. Deleuze den Leibnizianismus für die Beschreibung von Kunst fruchtbar. Davon ausgehend untersucht das Seminar Diskurse und Institutionen zu Kunst und Design – u. a. mit der Problematisierung der Gleichungen Kunstwerk = Unikat und Designobjekt = Serie. Welche Rolle spielen Institutionalisierungen (z. B. die Gründung von Designmuseen), Materialien (z. B. Porzellan) und Formate (z. B. Modelle)? Wo findet eine »cross-fertilization« zwischen beiden Disziplinen statt und wo sind Abgrenzungsversuche zu verorten?

Nichts (nɪçt͡s, german: nothing, emptiness) is an animated film about the history of „nothing“. The fragmentary scenes of the fable-like narrative are presented in the form a philosophical report, which quotes different sources on the theme of the nothing. In Nichts the anthropomorphic female hare Judy, explores this old idea of nothingness with the help of a message that she finds on a dictaphone thats shaped like a carrot. Her well-known character is from the Oscar-winning animated film „Zootopia“ from 2016. The story unfolds the the path of scientists and thinkers who have dealt with the question of what the nothing realy is and how to track it down – and also presents its very own perspective and answer.
