While I'm not much of a gamer (I think I stopped playing frequently someplace after Super Mario when I was a kid), once in a while there is a game that captures my interest.
Arkane Studio's
Dishonored is one of these games. They invented a stunning world (based on 19th Century England) that is visually extremely appealing in its mix of beauty and decay, and the story is gripping and has a lot of potential, too:
Your play the former bodyguard of the Empress. When she is killed and her daughter abducted, you are framed for her murder and sent to prison to be tortured for a confession. Months later, you escape - finding the world you've known gone forever.
From the official description of the game:
As you move though a world torn apart by plague and oppressed by a government armed with strange new technologies, the truth behind your betrayal is as murky as the waters surrounding the city.I love how the games gives you a lot of freedom. There are things to be achieved, but how you do it is your choice - and it effects the final outcome. So from a peaceful ending to a high-chaos plague ridden end, the choices are yours to make.
