Dear Yoda

Thank you for offering to create fanworks involving my favourite media fandom. I am so excited about this exchange. Know that I will love what you make for me!

General Preferences I am equally happy with gen, romantic, PWP or any combination of the same. I adore smart characters in tough situations, wise-cracks out the wazoo and angst can be really awesome. AUs are great - how about throwing characters back into ancient Egypt, medieval Europe or a steampunk Star Wars galaxy? A modern collegiate AU could be cool as would just about anything from quiet vignette to action-packed adventure.

For DNW? I do not like graphic violence or torture. I don't like rape or any non-consensual sex. Please no zombies of any of my requested characters. Please try not to exclude women entirely from the story.

Specific Requests

Rey: This character is everything I have ever wanted since, well, ever. And that goes back a long way! I am intrigued by how Rey's story up to and through the movie. (I'm intrigued by what comes after, but unless you're really inspired, don't feel you have to go beyond Ep. VII!) I'm interested in seeing how Rey manages on Jakku for all those many years or her reaction to the verdant, populous worlds she comes to with the Resistance.

There's so many prospects for angst, excitement and discovery! Did you ever wonder how Rey felt the first time she piloted a ship that could go between the stars and yet felt she had to stay on Jakku to wait for her family? What does she think of Poe when she finally meets him? Tell me about her connections with Leia or R2, Chewbacca or Finn, or all of them! Daisy Ridley makes Rey beautifully brave - bring that to life in story or art and I'll be thrilled.

Luke Skywalker: I have been a Luke fangirl since the first film came out. Yes, he was a whiny farm kid, but he was ours, and he grew up before our eyes into a pretty amazing fellow who never gave up on people. From rescuing Han to resisting the emperor, Luke became a real Jedi in the original trilogy. Clearly his years since have been hard, but I'd hope that there remained joy, love and friendship along the way before his long exile.

If you want to return to Tatooine, that would be cool. Maybe something immediately post-RotJ or further along? How does he feel when Leia & Han have a son, drift or tear apart? What were his last words to R2? Does he ever hear from the Force ghosts of his old teachers or his father? An AU Luke story would be fabulous. One of my favourite EU fanfics was an AU where Luke was an emperor, heir to Vader, and working with a very uneasy New Republic. Art or story that focuses on Luke at any stage in his long, eventful life? I'm good with that!

Leia Organa (Leia Organa/Han Solo): I love every snarky, take-charge, deeply determined and utterly pragmatic impulse that has ever run through Leia's mind as well as her wildly unexpected love for Han. There are few things more romantic than the growth in their relationship as they learn to trust each other (see RotJ where Han covers for an injured Leia to be able to shoot the trooper when he moves aside).

I would love to see something of Leia, with Han or with his palpable absence, in the years after RotJ. You can include Luke and Ben, if you want, or not. AU like the riproaringly funny modern Solo adventures tumblr - http://mamalaz.tumblr.com/tagged/modern-solo-adventures - or even wilder. I love General Leia and feel so much empathy for all the burdens she's carrying for so many years. That last hug with Han? What a moment!

Padmé Amidala: I think that Natalie Portman is fantastic. I love that the same actress played a central figure in the prequels as well as in the Thor movies. There's some AU fodder right there (or sources for manips if you're an artist!). I also like how accomplished, brave and take-charge Padmé is (at least in the first two prequels). She holds her own among the Jedi - how many people can say that?

If you want to go before the prequels to show something of how Padmé became the queen she was - her adventures with her handmaidens, the pain of their losses, her fruitless work as senator during Palpatine's ruthless rise to power. . . any of those would appeal. If you want to show Padmé her children and grandchildren - maybe an AU, a Force ghost visit or simply visions back in her own time? I'm there for all of those or any sort of AU - the Family Skywalker on the road (multi-generational circus show? Whatever!). Let her resourcefulness shine through and I'll be more than thrilled!

Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Anne Elliot/Frederick Wentworth
Characters: Anne Elliot, Frederick Wentworth, Mrs. Smith (Persuasion), Louisa Musgrove, James Benwick

Yuletide 2014 Recs

It's [community profile] yuletide / yuletide and time for another round of recs.

Let me begin by recommending the wonderful Elementary fic that I received. Focused on Joan Watson before she met Sherlock, it's a wonderful little medical case-fic. Read carefully as there's more than one little treat for fans in the story.

Breathtaken (1362 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Elementary (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Characters: Joan Watson (Elementary), Marcus Bell
Summary: Joan Watson has been working 28 hours in the ER without a break. Of course, that's when the ambulance pulls up.

Next, I'll pick from favourite fics that I've come across so far in a very unsystematic trawling of the archives (my comments are in italics at the end of each):

Ladies in Waiting (The Hardest Part) (666 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: 15th Century CE RPF
Rating: General Audiences
Relationships: Margaret Beaufort & Elizabeth of York
Characters: Elizabeth of York Queen of England, Margaret Beaufort
Summary: Being left behind to wait is always the most difficult thing. This is a beautifully-rendered female-centric piece of early Tudor history. Of course I love it!

The Crown of Hed (6397 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Riddle-Master Trilogy - Patricia A. McKillip
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Characters: Tristan of Hed, Morgon of Hed, Astrin Ymris, Rood of An, Lyraluthuin, Bere of Isig
Summary: When Tristan left Hed, she took her warmest cloak and her second-best dress, and the pieces of jewelry that Bere of Isig had sent to her, one each year since the end of the war. This is the fic that you didn't know you wanted until you started reading and were sucked into a perfect extension of McKillip's beautiful world.

Three Months Away (1000 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: All Souls Trilogy - Deborah Harkness
Rating: General Audiences
Relationships: Diana Bishop/Matthew Clairmont
Summary: Separations - however necessary - are hard on both Diana and Matthew. OMG, I have wanted fic for these books since I read the first. This is achingly well-written and a wonderful accompaniment for anyone who's loved the trilogy even half as much as I have.

A Necessary Ingredient in Living (2598 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Austenland - All Media Types
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Jane Hayes/Henry Nobley
Characters: Jane Hayes, Henry Nobley
Summary: It is a truth universally acknowledged that into every fantasy, reality must creep. This is a really sweet and plausible answer to "what comes after the Happily Ever After" for Jane and Henry.

I am Groot (Groot's Story) (78 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Guardians of the Galaxy (Movies)
Rating: General Audiences
Characters: Groot (Marvel)
Summary: Groot's perspective on Guardians of the Galaxy. Hover your mouse over each phrase to read the amazing hover text story that's the real key to this piece.

Yuletide Nominations 2014

I couldn't resist, although I may be mostly enabling. Still not certain whether or not I will sign up but when I was browsing the nominations spreadsheet, I saw that someone had nominated four lovely women from Courtney Milan's Brothers Sinister series of books. So that did me in - I had to nominate four more!

My nominations for 2014 (and why only three fandoms?)
Brothers Sinister Series - Courtney Milan
Minerva Lane, Lydia Charingford, Amanda Ellisford, Genevieve Johnson (the last two would make for an awesome Misses Clause piece, just sayin')

Orphan Black (TV)
Donnie Hendrix, Paul Dierden, Vic Schmidt, Kira Manning (I mostly nominated for character fillers based on what wasn't showing up on the spreadsheet because my husband is an uber fan and would love to read something with Alison and Donnie)

Ever After (1998) (Because, damnit, someone owes me Danielle being awesome)
Danielle de Barbarac, Prince Henry (Ever After), Jacqueline de Ghent, Laurent (Ever After)

I am so sad that I couldn't nominate Holmes on Home RPF this year but as I'm pretty much the only one who writes this (well, about half of the stories in the archive are by me), that's a silly indulgence. I also hope that someone nominates more Heyer. And Ned in the Nancy Drew stories. And I'm not seeing tonnes of historical RPF prospects. And how sad is it that Elementary is now too big for the challenge?

My gifts were spectacular - I received two stories that beautifully fulfilled (and exceeded) my prompts. Both in the Star Wars - Thrawn trilogy fandomCollapse )

What I wrote? Two stories, my assignment for Emma - Jane Austen and another 15th c. RPF Madness treatCollapse )

Back to the archives to read some more amazing fic!

Dear Yuletide Author, 2013

Thank you for volunteering to write in yuletide (on DW, [community profile] yuletide) and thanks for offering in a fandom that matches with at least one of my requests!

I prefer gen, het and femslash. I like stories involving women whenever possible. This doesn't mean I'm anti-boyslash, I just like to have women as a major part of the story. So bring on the girls whenever possible!

I'm not a big fan of stories that lean heavily on horror, hurt/comfort or major character death. Humour or angst are both good and the same goes for plotty fics or PWP. Smart characters are my favourites (maybe smart-asses, too). I love meta, too, so if an idea takes you in odd directions, feel free to explore.

Most of all, remember that I'm going to be as happy as possible that you wrote this for me and all the other fans who flock to the annual exchange. Thanks so much!

Now, onto the individual fandoms presented here in alphabetical order.

Nominations 2013

For yuletide this year, I nominated

Holmes on Homes RPF Mike Holmes Damon Bennett

Ever After (1998): Danielle de Barbarac, Prince Henry (Ever After), Jacqueline de Ghent, Laurent

Bath Tangle - Georgette Heyer: Serena Carlow, Ivo Barrasford, Fanny Carlow, Hector Kirkby

The Nonesuch - Georgette Heyer: Ancilla Trent, Sir Waldo Hawkridge, Tiffany Wield, Laurence Calver

An awful lot of the fandoms I'd like to nominate are ineligible (not too sure that I like the ending of the ten-years-old-or-older fandoms being automatically eligible. I enjoyed seeing older fandoms revitalize in this exchange but I still have a lot of possibilities out there!

Yuletide 2012

Again, I wrote two stories. The first in a fandom that will hardly surprise anyone. I was pleased to see it recced twice before the reveal:

Strange Geometry (4374 words) by ancarett
Fandom: Holmes on Homes RPF, Cthulhu Mythos - H. P. Lovecraft
Rating: General Audiences
Characters: Mike Holmes, Damon Bennett
Summary: There's something seriously wrong with the old Atwood house. Just how do you close a portal to a plane of eldritch power? Mike knows how to make it right!

The second was a last-minute deal inspired by a prompt that I loved (I have a soft spot in my heart for the pairing of Elizabeth of York and Henry VII, call me crazy).

The Endris Night (2140 words) by ancarett
Fandom: 15th Century CE RPF
Rating: General Audiences
Relationships: Elizabeth of York/Henry VII
Characters: Elizabeth of York, Henry VII of England
Summary: What is life at the court? Is it all plots and planning or is it something more? Elizabeth brings her own strengths as she prepares to marry the new king.

I received a fabulous Georgette Heyer/Mike Holmes mashup:
Dower House Quadrille (2865 words) by TwoWeevils
Fandom: Unknown Ajax - Georgette Heyer
Rating: General Audiences
Relationships: Anthea Darracott/Hugo Darracott
Characters: Lord Darracott, Hugo Darracott, Claud Darracott, Anthea Darracott, Elvira Darracott, Aurelia Darracott, Vincent Darracott, Mike Holmes

Thank you for volunteering to write in yuletide (on DW, [community profile] yuletide) and thanks for offering in a fandom that matches with at least one of my requests! Or should I offer sympathies?

In general, I'm a big fan of gen, het and femslash. I like stories involving women whenever possible. This doesn't mean I'm anti-boyslash, I just like to have women as a major part of the story. So bring on the girls!

As far as story type goes, I'm good with anything goes from character vignettes to plotty stories and on to PWP. I love humour and adore angst. If you're into the meta-tastic and wittily self-referential? I'll reverence you for sure, but don't think you need to write a certain type of story to make me happy! Yuletide Nominations for 2012

I did it, I submitted my suggestions for [community profile] yuletide (aka yuletide) 2012! My three nominations (and these were tough!) are as follows:

Ever After (1998): Danielle, Prince Henry, Jacqueline, Leonardo da Vinci

Holmes on Homes RPF: Mike Holmes, Damon Bennett, Mike Holmes Jr. (MJ), Sherry Holmes

Unknown Ajax (Georgette Heyer) Anthea, Hugo, Richmond, Elvira

The last was a big wibble. I went back and forth for an hour on the Heyer or The Guild. Oh, it was hard. I'm hoping someone else nominates that and so many other great little fandoms. See the nomination tracking post with linked Google Docs spreadsheet for what's currently up there: http://yuletide.livejournal.com/1089821.html
