It’s the first day of Fall quarter at Cark College, and I’m back on-line and ready to rock. This month’s Music Passion Theme word is Blues. A while back I posted Eric Clapton’s Smoking Power Blues rendition of “Don’t Think Twice” at Madison Square Gardens 1992 Bob Fest, honoring Bob Dylan’s 30 years in the music business. I also mentioned Niel Young’s set as being a personal favorite. He opened with “Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues” and continued on into a powerful rendition of “All Along the Watchtower”. Both sets featured a House band comprised of Steve Cropper, Booker T and Donald “Duck” Dunn.
Tom Thumb’s Blues has been performed by Niel on a few later occasions, while “Watchtower” became a staple in his subsequent tours. This is the first performance of both songs, and they flat out ROCK!!!
