“Can’t sleep?”

I startled, closing the manila file on my lap quickly and sliding it into a magazine. It was dark in here. There was a chance she hadn’t noticed what I was looking at for the hundredth time since I’d gotten it earlier that afternoon.

I fucking hoped she hadn’t.

Because the file on my lap held Parker’s whole tragic, beautiful life inside it.

“I don’t sleep much.”

“Oh.”

She had an empty glass in her hand. I stood up and took it from her, carrying it to the fridge where I kept a pitcher of filtered water. That was new. I’d never given a shit about stuff like water quality before. A lot of things were new since Parker came into my life, like seeing a gorgeous girl I couldn’t touch half-dressed and half-asleep at all hours of the day and night.

Like being able to see her but not touch her. It was pretty much constant torture. Not that I wanted it to end.

Right now, I was doing my best to ignore that she was sleeping in the giant shirt I’d given her that first night. I was sure she had other things to sleep in. But she’d chosen that, of all things. And it was so fucking sexy on her it made my dick hurt.

Her legs were bare from mid-thigh down. Her gorgeous, creamy, golden thighs. Even worse, her perfect little toes were bare. Those feet of hers . . . they were the cutest damn things I’d seen in my life. I wanted to suck those toes until she screamed.

I was one thousand percent certain she was not wearing a bra.

I was one thousand percent not certain whether she was wearing panties. Part of me was praying fervently that she was. The other part of me was praying much louder than she wasn’t.

I carried the water back to her and took her hand, curling it around the glass. We stared at each other, the air between us filled with electricity. I knew this was dangerous. I was so close to saying to hell with it, pulling her into my arms and burying myself inside her for days.

Weeks.

Years.

“Parker . . .” I said, my voice raw with need. I still held her hand where it circled the cup. I rubbed my thumb over the silky skin of her inner wrist. She leaned toward me slightly, and I jerked away abruptly.

“Go back to bed,” I growled. My voice was rough and sounded harsher than I meant it to. She blinked and inhaled sharply. Then she turned tail and ran.

I stood there, feeling her absence. It was like all the air got sucked out of the room without her there. Like the warmth and beauty were gone. I was losing my damn mind. I wanted to chase her down the hallway and tackle her. Just take what I wanted, again and again, until I was satisfied.

If it was even possible to be satisfied. I doubted it. I wanted her too badly. It felt like it would never end.

Instead, I walked back to the couch and opened the file.

The first thing I saw was a picture of Parker as a little girl. I traced the picture with my fingertips, just as I’d done the first time I saw the picture. She was precious. Confidence and intelligence shone out of her stunning blue eyes. I felt an overwhelming sense of tenderness well up inside me.

I bet that’s what her kids will look like, I thought. Pure and perfect, just like her.

From the moment I read this book’s description, I was intrigued. I was immediately drawn to Gypsy’s, free-spirited, no bullshit attitude. She had lived a hard life- but had decided long ago to take care of her sister… no matter the cost. Lucian is a man on a mission. I wasn’t exactly sure what was going to go down for a minute in the beginning when these two have a brief encounter. They each our on their own paths in life. Seemingly heading in totally different directions and when those paths collide both of their lives will be thrust into a direction neither of them had expected, and as the story went on it just kept getting better! There are definitely some rough parts to the story, but they were written very well and needed to be there in order to understand the reason why the characters are the way they are. The range of emotions, that I had throughout varied from excitement, to wonder, and I may have shed some UGLY tears. Ok, not may have… and it is a very rare thing for me to actually pour tears out while reading, but this one got me good. If you like a gut-wrencher full of twists you never saw coming this one is for you.

Steve Soderquist started writing when he was seventeen. He left that to become a successful musician, spending many years on the road with numerous bands. He came off the road to have a ‘normal life’, but found the writing bug hadn’t left him.

He wrote a novella One for the Road and knew he had to keep going. There was so much he felt compelled to put on paper. Steve went on to pen the horror novel Farm House, When it was complete and those blessed two words ‘THE END’ were put down, he knew he’d come full circle and found his calling. Farm House had originally been publishing it with a company that has since closed their doors.

Steve’s always been an avid reader with an eclectic mix of favorite authors: Stephen King, V.C. Andrews, Jules Verne, J.R.R. Tolkien, James Clavell…so many. It’s his belief reading different genres, has enriched him as an author.

Now, as a full-time published author, Steve’s not through with some of the characters he introduced in his first two books. In addition to his first two works, he’s completed and released Seeds, co-authoredRogue and has just finished Jessica, due out by year end. He has numerous other books at various stages of completion. Although he is a master at horror/thriller, he will tell you he doesn’t write genres, he writes books.

This year he became the co-owner of Foundations, LLC publishing company. As an author, he saw the need in the publishing world to help author’s learn how to promote and sell their work. Instead of complaining about it, he’s doing something about it. It’s because of this, he’s seeing his dilegent efforts pay off in the success of his company, proving there was a great need out there for authors to have a publisher show them the ropes.

“Sebby?” I called out, hesitantly walking through the entryway and into the open living space.

“Holy shit!” I exclaimed when my eyes settled on him standing in front of his refrigerator. But that wasn’t what caught me completely off-guard. It was the fact that he was standing there, holding a towel in his hand, exposing himself in all his glory. I quickly spun around, my entire face turning a shade of red that would put my hair color to shame.

“Fuck!” he shouted. “Do you take the world’s quickest shower or something?!”

“Balls,” I muttered, keeping my eyes glued to a large print of a vintage DC-10 that was hanging on the entryway wall.

“What?” he countered, his voice turning light and amused. I could almost picture that sexy and adorable smile drawn on those kissable lips of his.

“There were balls. And stuff.”

He laughed harder than I had heard him laugh in the few weeks I had known him, the rumble echoing in the open space.

“I’ll never be able to look at you again without seeing your balls, Sebby. Just thought you should know that.” I drew a long breath, trying to settle my nerves. Seeing his mouth-watering body completely bare didn’t help matters any. “Here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to go back to my apartment. I’m going to have a shot of whiskey. Or tequila. Or gin. Or whatever will make my blood pressure drop. And then I’m going to come back and we’ll try this again, okay?”

“I promise I’ll be dressed when you come back.”

“Why were you bare ass naked in your kitchen anyway? Did you want me to walk in on you like that? Trying to show off?”

“Do you think I have something to show off?”

“I… Well…” I shook it off. “I’m not answering that.”

“Okay then.”

“Okay.”

“Baylee…?”

“Yes?” I turned around as one often does when their name is called.

“Jesus!” His expression grew wide and he hastily attempted to hide himself.

“For fuck’s sake!” I spun back and faced the door once more. “Did you not think to cover yourself up after the first time I walked in and saw you naked? I’m still standing here. You know that bath towels serve some rather astonishing purposes these days, the most useful of which being something to wrap around your waist to keep your junk covered! I’m leaving and taking two shots of whiskey. Be back in five minutes.”

Loved, loved, loved it! I know I probably say this about all of T.K.’s books but I think this was my favoritest one yet! The chemistry between Baylee and Sebby is instant from the moment they meet. I loved this lighter side of this read and my sides still hurt from all the laughing I did through-out. Baylee needing to move on after some drama in her life takes off on an adventure and it was interesting to see where her journey takes her. I loved getting to see bits and pieces of her mother through her journal, it gave the story an element that needed to be there. We meet some interesting characters, and some not so savory ones. There is lots of fun to be had while reading it and there were a few times it gave me goosebumps as I was reading. The anticipation I had in waiting for this one definitely payed off. I hope to see more of these types of stories from her. And oh the men she dreams up has me confused as to who I should love more. Did I say I loved it? Great read, well written and moved at a great pace. It was inspiring at times and others it will make you want to throw your kindle- so make sure you have a good protective case 😉 . I can’t say anything more with out spoiling it for you, so you will just have to read it to find out why I enjoyed it so much!

Her mouth dropped open. “Reckless?” She scoffed. “I prefer spontaneous, or fearless, maybe even—”

He shook his head at her sassy retort, cutting her off. “You might have been killed, and I would have found myself short one maid.” The light left her eyes as he returned the subject to her servant status. Good. He wasn’t the heroic type anymore. Hadn’t been for a long time. He headed for the door.

“Oh really?”

His hand paused on the knob. She didn’t give up, did she?

A feather-light weight brushed his arm. “Call it what you want. I’m still saying thank you.”

Her sultry murmur spiked fire through his veins. He snared her wrist, whirled them both around, and gripped the back of her head with his free hand. Pressing her against the door, he barred her in with his frame. She gasped, a feminine cry that tantalized his ears. Her body was even more sensuous and lush than he’d imagined. Gentle curves that beckoned him.

So long without touch. He eased his grasp and rubbed circles with his thumb along the silky skin of her throat. Her pulse beat frantically, but her eyes, those jade orbs fastened on him in hunger.

F*ck. The last thing he needed was anyone attracted to this cursed body of his, yet Wen stared through him. As though peering at his soul. “How exactly are you proposing to thank me?”

Her dark lashes fanned out as she lowered her eyes. Coy, she was. Like a feline, toying with him. It worked. He’d never been so intrigued.

“I’ve already expressed my gratitude. I wasn’t making any offers. Unless, you’d like to tell me what that creature was?” Her eyes flashed at him, pupils dilating, her pink tongue flicking out to moisten her lips.

Gods, but he loved the way she met his stare straight on. No hint of intimidation. What made a mortal such as her so emboldened? Still, she’d not loosen his tongue so easily. Whenever he gave Wen one answer, she asked a hundred questions more. Her venture into the garden and encounter with the spirit animal Cat had been a close call. He’d not fuel her thirst for a second glimpse.

Her free hand flattened against his chest and he inhaled sharply at the warmth of contact. He hadn’t permitted anyone to touch this body. Hadn’t ever wanted anyone to. With her, the yearning was almost unbearable. He desired her hands, her mouth, her tongue. Everywhere.

Her stroking lightened as she trailed her fingertips downward.

He swallowed hard. He ought to stop this, whatever it was, but hell, curiosity demanded he allow her game.

Her fingertips left his bare flesh, one by one, until only the tip of her index finger continued its downward path. An inch above his waistline, she paused. Her gaze flicked back up to his, one eyebrow arched. Was she asking his permission? Bloody hell, no way she’d missed the thick outline of his erection.

She drew her bottom lip between her teeth. Indecisive? Perhaps he should encourage her exploration. He bent forward and feathered his lips against hers. Once. One taste, and then he pulled back.

Her mouth parted, those soft, velvety lips inviting him deeper. He eased his grip off her throat and caressed his hand along her collarbone. Her warm, sweet breath heated through his body, making him shudder with need. Pressing his lips to hers again, he flicked his tongue along hers slowly, careful not to unleash too much passion upon her. She was mortal, after all.

Delicate and fragile.

She moaned, her body melting against his as she lifted her leg to stroke her knee along his thigh. Coaxing him closer. He released her other hand and she glided it across his abs, her exploration firing explosive sparks over his skin.

This tight leather outfit she wore provoked him. Taunted him. He yearned to peel it off her. With his teeth.

As he thrust his tongue inside her mouth, he skimmed his hand over her pert breast and around to grab her *ss, aiding her thigh higher. Cradling his hips against hers, he ground their lower bodies together.

Suddenly, she wrenched her lips off his, twisting her head to the side. Her skin was flushed, her breathing in irregular pants. She clearly desired him, so why had she stopped?

“I believe this belongs to you.”

Vicky’s 5 ☆ Review

Oh man this one was a doozy of a roller coaster ride. There are different twists and turns and I could not put it down! In this one we get a glimpse of Shaun’s past with Carmen. There is such a love between them, you can see why he is tortured with the thought of loving again. Kelsey has some big changes happen for her, and when things go awry it seems all is lost. Will they be able to find what they are both looking for? Dori definitely has a way of drawing you in and only giving enough information as you need it to keep you guessing. I loved this installment and cannot wait to see what happens in the next book as Shaun returns to his hometown to face his demons. I wonder what that one had in store for us!!

Anyone who walks through this place on a Friday night that I don’t know is just passing through. Believe me—I know everyone in this town. I have lived here almost all my life. So when something like that walks through the crappy bar doors, I notice. Hell, every damn woman here notices.

What’s the difference between me and the rest of the women that now swoon over Mr. Hottie-pants who leans casually against the bar? I know damn well that I don’t have a chance in hell. Girls like me? We’re meant for the background. Meant to fade into it and go without notice.

I continue on with my job like any other night—a night where some Adonis doesn’t ooze sex appeal that wafts around like a pheromone-filled cologne. I sneak a peek at him while I bring the zillionth tray to my disorderly customers and he catches me. Shit, he’s hot.

I grab the final glass to fill the small drink tray in my hand (again). My table is a rowdy bunch of college morons and to say they’re drunk is a gross understatement. They’re so drunk that they begin to worry me. After this round I’ll have to send Danny over to cut them off. I don’t get paid enough to do that shit.

“Hey—” a voice slurs as an audible slap sounds. He. Did. Not. Yep—he did! This guy seriously just grabbed my ass. “Put the pitcher here.” He laughs at his own drunken rudeness.

I know that I shouldn’t do anything, but I can’t really stop myself. “I’m sorry.” I say sweetly. “Where did you want this pitcher?” The fucker points to the table in front of him with a smile on his face…a smile that quickly changes to a look of shock when I proceed to pour the entire contents of the pitcher over his head.

“You bitch!” The guy screams and flips the table as he stands with more speed than someone as drunk as him should.

Uh-oh. See—this is why I’m not supposed to do this. Danny (aka my boss/bar owner/bouncer) is busy across the bar. The drunken beer-covered fool in front of me is hella-pissed and towers over me. Whoops!

You think that’s enough to give me pause, make me back down or shut the fuck up? Nope, not me. See, that makes sense and I’m not a fan of that at all. “I’m sorry!” I say brashly. “I assumed when you grabbed my ass you wanted to wear your beer.”

The man raises his hand high above him and I know what comes next. I don’t flinch though—instead I stand my ground. The group of friends behind him splits. Half of them try to calm him while the other half eggs him on. Maybe a second before the drunken asshole’s fist crashes into me an even larger more impressive hand shoots out from behind me. I expect to see Danny behind me so I’m quite speechless when I see the gorgeous piece of man from the bar instead.

I turn on the light in the kitchen and see something on the counter. I tear open the envelope and what I find brings me to my knees. A hole punches through my chest and I can’t breathe.

She left. J. Left.

She even leaves her cell phone and keys. What the fuck am I going to do?
