"Ann's Big Bash" [Apr. 26th, 2014|09:27 pm]

Ann had her party yesterday. I don't know where to begin, so I'll just describe what comes to me.

I thought it was shitty that some of the teachers just stood back and said nothing to her. Some left without saying goodbye. She came in and she could barely walk. her face was swollen. She is slowly going blind. She would have icing all over her face when eating her cake without wiping it off. She didn't say much.

It was interesting to see how her friends acted. Eleven years old. I can't help but wonder what they're thinking. I never imagined losing a friend when I was their age, especially not to this disease. I think what chilled me the most was when her friends were drawing on the board with expo markers, and she wanted to join in. She wrote "Ann waz here" with her left hand, and they (Ann included) all laughed at how unsteady her non-dominant hand was. The "a" was backwards, which confirmed the extent of her brain damage from her brain tumor. Abi asked her, "Why can't you use your right hand?" She looked up at me directly after saying it, and I gave her a look like, "Duh!" I shouldn't have reacted like that, but none of us were ourselves. Barysh said, "How do I say this... it will get better soon. My cousin is sick in her hip and her hand got better eventually."

I'm proud of the kids for showing her a happy time and not freaking out too much. Although it took them a while to start talking, no one cried and no one indicated how close it is to the end. I'm glad I got to see her one last time.

I'm not sure what else to say.

things like this make me miss texas and my family [Oct. 25th, 2010|01:17 pm]

SIX MONTHS AGO....

at the dinner table, my dad's like,
"When I was walking to lunch today, I saw a compact car drive by with a six-foot tripod on the top. It was the Google Car. So I waved at it. I wonder when they're gonna put it online...."

TODAY:
I'm bored and look through google street pics of Houston.

I see this:

People who know my Dad, know this is my Dad. He's got all the features of my Dad. My Dad's like, a cartoon character in the way that he always wears the same outfits and has had the same hairstyle and fashion since he was born.

- The Boatshoes
- The blue/green rain jacket, the only jacket he ever wears ever, lol.
- A polo (My dad has ONLY worn polos HIS WHOLE LIFE lmao.)
- His barely-salted black hair, that is very uncharacteristic for a 60-year-old man.
- His glasses

I have to stop writing. Tears in my eyes from laughter. Little bit of drool, too.

OH BTW IF SOMEONE COULD SHOOP STRIDING LEO INTO THIS PIC, I WOULD BE SO HAPPY LOL

14. "No, we might end up on all of those cop shows" (lol PARANOIA)
30. "No, I don't have any money for potato chips"
46. "I'm on my way to the mall." um, ok?
53. "I prefer my brown eyes to your red ones"
54. "My parents did and look at them now." YEAH... THEY'RE REALLY FUCKING SUCCESSFUL, LOL.

America's Next Top Model: Brenda [Mar. 19th, 2010|12:25 pm]

Any of y'all watch America's Next Top Model? Even though we're only cycle what, 14 now? I don't usually watch it, but the other day a commercial came on for some local Houston station. They introduced the commercial saying "America's Next top model is from HOUSTON!!!" and I looked up, and I was like, "OMG THAT'S BRENDA!"
They confirmed this for me by saying her name 2 seconds later. I recognized her from the get-go because when I first met her 5 or 6 years ago, she was happy to have another pale redhead on the catwalk with her.

She went to modeling school with me at Neal Hammil. I was scouted to be a model there when I was a senior in High School, and Brenda took some classes, got her modeling diploma (way before I did, though. lol) and I saw her every week for 10 months. She was always VERY friendly. She had really long, curly red hair back then, and you can't tell from the pictures or the show, but she was tall.as.fuck. Although she towered over me, she was still skinnier than me, and very graceful given her tall, lanky frame. She WORKED it. Even my parents took note of her, mom saying that she was so skinny and she always looked "strung out." I think we even pieced together a theory that she modelled for her coke addiction and that's why she was so skinny and her eyelids were always half-open. We weren't seriously hating on her though, we were just jealous of her success, duh.

Brenda taught me how to walk on the runway. She taught me that when given the choice of shoes a size too big or a size too small, ALWAYS go with the size too big, and make sure to bring cotton balls in your bag to fill up the rest of the shoes or else you'll get blisters. If you get blisters anyway, the cotton balls will help the pain when you put normal shoes back on. She told us horror stories of how some runway shows only had really small shoes and she has to walk on the runway like nothing is wrong while her feet were literally bleeding and even soaking onto the shoe and the next model would have to wear the blood-soaked shoe anyway, so make sure you bring sheer socks because none of those shoes or clothes get washed between shows. I've always remembered her advice for the runway, and I always use it. I feel like I have her to thank for my success.

She was the top model of Houston, basically, so I sat there wondering, "Why is this REALLY experienced model going on a show where they TEACH girls how to be models? Brenda should be coaching models on this show, not the other way around!" And my first thought was "omg! America's Next Top Model really IS staged!" Like, I really thought that Brenda was going to get up there and talk about how she had never modeled and blah blah blah. But then I watched her interview:

I LOL'd when she said "the evil local modeling agency," because I KNEW which agency she was talking about. And it IS evil. They force you into a two-year contract and even if Christian Dior came to your door pleading to get you onto his runway, you still were not allowed to do ANY modeling jobs that were not brought to the model through the agency. I'm glad Brenda got to peace out of that agency and go on to greater things.

This post is NOT meant to be taken as me bragging. It's a combination of me realizing just how small this world is, and of me rooting for team Brenda. And you know, in case any of y'all are fans of ANTP, I figured you'd want to know what she was like before she got personal training from the one and only Tyra Banks.

I NEED HALP!!!! [Aug. 16th, 2009|03:35 pm]
lolra
It's OBVIOUSLY that time of the month bc I'm like super emotional. I was driving behind a truck that said "JUST MARRIED!!" on the back and I just started crying like OMFG THEY MUST BE SOOO HAPPY THAT'S JUST SO BEAUTIFUL TO FIND SOMEONE YOU WANT TO GROW OLD WITH, lol.

SPEAKING OF MARRIAGE,
I need these done for my brothers wedding. And also to make my mom stop saying the same thing she's been saying for the past 27 years about THEIR wedding. My Dad's best friend had just finished photography school before their wedding, so my Dad depended on his friend to take the photos... the guy showed up with a disposable camera. LOL.
SO, I need some help from you geniuses.
neonntiger, sugabones, descendres, WHOEVER ELSE IS GOOD WITH PHOTOSHOP,

Could someone please please get rid of the red cup and replace it with like maybe a clear glass or a champagne glass?? I think this is what concerns my mom the most (then why'd she have those red cups at her own wedding to begin with? lol)

OK OK the red cup there obvs LOL and also, could someone lighten up my Daddy and not my mommy?? is that even possible??

and for my second request,Collapse )

As compensation, I will... mail you something awesome! LOL, most of ya'll aren't even from america or at least texas so I'll mail you some goodies because I just moved and I have a lot of stuff that I just don't feel like having anymore, so why not give them to my lovely friends? *yay*

I went to the Museum of Natural Science for my English class. Yes, I know, it's weird to go there for a LITERATURE class, but the professor I have is dead set on setting everyone against christianity. It is all that we have ever read in this class- in British Literature, we study Lyell and Darwin and Huxley. In American Literature, we study "Age of Reason" and other bull shit. So for extra credit, he wants us to go to the museum of SCIENCE boredom (although it is an ENGLISH class) and he asked us specifically to look at the dinosaur bones and see how "our hands are like theirs and that it is obvious evidence of evolution which disproves adam and eve" or some shit, and then write a response about what we learned from the museum.
Of course, I'm not writing shit about evolution through the dinosaurs. *thumbs up*
The museum was very interesting- I went with my daddy because 1. he is ALWAYS eager to learn and I believe you should always surround yourself with people who are ambitious and hungry for knowledge. 2nd reason is because he paid for my ticket. oh and because I love him. Damn, I'm a daddy's girl.

So here is my paper. All of my commentary that I've saved for you guys is going to be (in parentheses).
It's pretty interesting- even if you don't read anything I wrote, at least take a look at the pictures.

my trip to the natural museum. complete with pics. Collapse )

feeling blue? [Jul. 30th, 2009|07:49 am]

The color dye in blue m&m's helps block off the chemicals that kill off healthy cells around the spinal chord after a spinal chord injury. The mice who had the BBG injected into them after a spinal chord injury later began to walk (but with a limp), while those without BBG didn't walk at all. The only bad side is that your skin will temporarily turn BLUE!
but I hear being blue is cool these days. John from Watchmen, the blueman group...

and here is a mouse that they tested it on! Blue mice are cute. And way less frightening to see in your kitchen. It looks like something from outerspace. cool.
