Hi! I'm Alex, she/they. I also go by Alessia, but I'll respond to either of the two or other variants of my name (e.g Alexia, Lexi).
I'm in my 20s, I'm Transfem, Aromantic, Bisexual, Non-Binary, living in Romania for the time being, but I'm split between staying or moving out of the country due to general bad QoL, bad politics, corruption and climate change. I'm also an Atheist, have been since I was at least 12, but the signs were always there.
What I do
In my free time, I used to work on games in Unreal Engine using Blueprints, such as 
PRISONIA, now I work on porting my projects from UE to 
Sapphire - including working on the ported PRISONIA project, work on other software and websites such as the one you're currently browsing, or the 
Vanta Interactive website, with its own subdomains for Docs and Status.
I'm the most comfortable with GDScript, C++, HTML, CSS and JS, and Liquid. I don't use web frameworks like React, Angular, Vue, and so on.
I like to tinker with stuff a lot, so you can expect posts on Masto or on my blog about experiments and whatnot.
I stopped talking about work - not because there's anything wrong with it or whatever, I just have a tendency to ramble about things and office work doesn't really seem all that noteworthy for this blog.

Worldview
Here's my worldview on many things. I try not to opine on things I know nothing or very little about, but I will be cautious and sceptical about approaching such topics. But on the short, I'm not a Socialist, definitely not a Communist, Anarchist, or some other radical political ideology. I'm simply 'Progressive', I don't think I can find a specific ideology I can align with, and that's just fine.

It's because some agencies get an ego and start operating way out of their legal limits, and there's no one to hold them accountable for their mistakes. An intelligence agency is not inherently bad or evil. They can be massively helpful in exposing and leading to the arrest of organized crime groups, as history has proven time and time again. They can be massively helpful in protecting their country's interests, as is the case for the US, as history has proven time and time again. |
| AGAINST | Communism, Fascism, Nazism, other extreme ideologies | None of them are good. Fuck off. Shilling for North Korea, China, Russia (or the ol' URSS) or being a tankie is just bad. On Communism: Communism is the extreme left, so it obviously comntains the most radical stuff of the left. However, depending on the political axis you use to represent Communism, you might notice that it becomes a horseshoe, where Communism is on the opposite end of it, but still close to, Fascism and Nazism. That's because Communism inherits the same kind of extreme violence and practices found in those ideologies. Gulags, prison camps, strict rights about what is and what isn't illegal (including outlawing abortion), a one-party system, secret police that does the bidding of the authoritarian leader(s), any opposants or dissidents are tracked down and imprisoned or murdered, propaganda, etc. Communism is just as reprehensible and as horrific as Fascism. It's fundamentally impossible to have a Communist utopia without violence and these extreme practices. At some point, it will slide down the same slippery slope, and there's no coming back from it. |

| AGAINST | Mass surveillance | As seen time and time again, mass surveillance systems such as NSA's PRISM, the EU's ChatControl proposal, Romania's IIS, mass surveillance is bad. It also highlights the pitifully and miserably uneducated politicians that push this stuff out. No, <Enter politician name here>, you can't magically separate content that is obviously illegal such as CSAM from content that is not, on the client side (e.g. Signal, WhatsApp, an SMS messaging app) without intercepting the rest of the stuff. And what do you do with the rest of the stuff, anyway? Do you immediately discard it in a way that can be publicly traced (to ensure that only illegal content is handled, while everything else is transparently automatically disposed of from your servers)? Do you keep it around just in case? Not only is that a waste of storage on your side, but also breaking encryption protocols and effectively making all communication insecure and privacy-infringing, which breaks actual human rights. |

A proper curriculum cannot be replaced by simply giving your child a device and letting them choose what to learn. Some argue against conformity, suggesting that children shouldn’t have to follow classroom norms, especially those with ADHD. However, learning to adapt to societal expectations is essential for functioning in society. While there are exceptions for neurodivergent children, it’s crucial to ensure they receive a structured education, whether through Special Ed Schools or homeschooling with a proper curriculum and qualified teachers, rather than relying on apps or unqualified ‘educators’. Some may claim that real-life experiences, like grocery shopping, can teach valuable skills. However, foundational subjects like math should be taught in a structured environment, building on what they learn in school. Research shows that unschooled children often perform worse than their peers who follow a structured curriculum in key areas like reading, writing, and math. American Families’ Attitudes to Unschooling - A National Survey Studies indicate that unschooling does not consistently provide equitable educational experiences. For instance, Martin-Chang et al. (2011) found that children educated without structured lesson plans performed worse than those in public schools. The notion that children shouldn’t learn subjects they dislike, such as math, is misguided. A basic education, including math, language, history, and science, is essential. These subjects cannot be replaced by informal experiences or apps; they should complement formal education. Proposing to abolish education systems is a privileged stance. Instead of discarding them, we should work towards reforming and improving these systems for everyone. Radical unschooling advocates often misunderstand the role of education. It’s vital to ensure children receive proper instruction, especially in critical developmental periods. If you believe your education system is lacking, advocate for change rather than abandonment. Be cautious of radical unschoolers; their approach may not be in your child’s best interest. I hope the trend of unschooling fades away in favor of more effective educational practices. |
