What is Data?
“Data is information that describes events, sequences, facts, and conditions. When processed and analysed, data transforms into insight that can inform organisations on what to do and who to become.”
However, across organisations and industries, data can mean different things to different people on the spectrum from information to insight. What organisations mean when they say ‘data’ is, first and foremost, the actionable information or insight that drives change in organisations.
We believe that data is not a technical discipline or a support function that fulfils tickets. Data is a change function spanning the technical and business realms that should drive tangible value through improved business performance.
We believe in helping organisations get better at using their data to drive business value, wherever that is for them. Some might call this becoming data-driven, data-enabled, data-centric, or a myriad of other terms. We call it data transformation: it is using data to drive change in how an organisation operates.
To unlock this transformation, data needs to be thought of across its entire journey from raw information to insight. The Alchemmy Data Value Chain describes this lifecycle.
