About me

My name is Jan Alberdingk Thijm and I am an Executive Coach.

Over the years I have had the honour to work with hundreds of executives and their teams. They have trusted me to support them in their development as leaders, in achieving their ambitions and to lead happier lives.

Before becoming an Executive Coach, I spent more than twenty-five years in various people focused leadership roles. Including in executive search, as Global Talent Director, as CHRO and as an Executive Board Member. I have worked with companies in very different industries on four continents. I gained these experiences in working for family owned businesses, large corporates, private equity firms and start-ups. Have a look at  LinkedIn for my full professional background.

  • Over time I have become fascinated by what makes people successful in any organisation. Certainly, talent, skills and experience are important, but also the context in which people operate. Crucial however is how leaders hold themselves in any given situation. In other words, how do they lead themselves? Whether people are encountering challenges in their work, or want to improve their effectiveness as leaders, or want to make changes in their careers, getting to know yourself and taking ownership of your situation is a key element of my coaching.
  • I am an EMCC accredited coach at Senior Practitioner level. I have received a Post-Graduate degree in Executive Coaching from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and a Postgraduate Diploma (with merit) from Ashridge Hult Business School (UK). I am also certified in Stakeholder Centred Coaching by Marshall Goldsmith and certified in several Hogan Assessment tools. Finaly, I have also followed  programmes in Secure Base Leadership with George Kohlrieser at IMD.
