Abilities: Naomi has above average intelligence and remarkable deductive reasoning abilities. She knows Capoeira and is readily able to apply it in combat (dance battler, baby!). As an FBI agent, she also has some experience in handling guns and handcuffs, basic hacking skills, and the like. Oh, and she can ride a mean motorcycle.

Personality: (Quoted material comes directly from the book)

Naomi Misora, intelligent and tough, shines best when she's on her own, driven towards a goal. When she develops an objective, she will enthusiastically and diligently pursue it at all costs. Fortunately, being intellectually, physically, and emotionally capable, this is not a particularly difficult feat for her, as evidenced by her impressive, rapid climb up the FBI ladder. Naomi is clever, having deduced tricks in Kira's killing methods that even L, the world's greatest detective, had not yet figured out at the time based on only a few clues. She's athletic, skillfully using Capoeira in response to a surprise attack from B, a criminal. And she's resilient, emotionally strong enough to quickly bounce back after the murder of her fiance and to subsequently pursue his murderer with unfaltering drive.

When Naomi wants something, she'll pursue it without rest, although she will not overstep socially and legally acceptable boundaries. She may try to weasel information out of others discreetly though. When Raye refused to tell Naomi details regarding a bus jacking he was a part of, she pretended to drop the subject only to casually ask him about it again at a later time in a seemingly off-handed way. "Giving up" is not a common phrase in Misora's vocabulary set. However, that same ambition doubles as a fault. Although strong-willed, Naomi does let her emotions get the best of her under the right circumstances. When Light offered her the opportunity to investigate and catch Kira, her fiance's murderer, under L, her burning desire to avenge him overpowered her judgment and caused her to drop her guard. The fact that Light resembled L, whom she trusted completely, similarly tapped into that emotional weakness.

Being human, Misora is also subject to (sometimes unconscious) compassion. During one mission with an FBI team, the agent failed to shoot a 13 year old criminal, a move that almost cost her her job. However, Naomi, in general, does not have strong opinions, aka “fits of righteousness,” about things unless they impact her personally or emotionally (such as when Kira killed her fiance). Despite this, there are still certain things that are dubbed “simply unforgivable” by her, such as murder of children. Although she does not always see everything in black-and-white terms, Naomi certainly has some sense of justice, especially when her emotions are triggered.

Personality-wise, Naomi is generally calm in demeanor. She expresses emotions but does not exaggerate them. When Naomi becomes angry, she will not give in to outbursts. Rather, she is more of the passive aggressive type, and especially when her pride is on the line, she will not lash out the offender in a fit of rage, but will instead directly state her opinions or make sarcastic remarks. Likewise, when Naomi's happy, she won't burst out laughing, but might chuckle quietly. Even when she cries, she does so in silence. However, Naomi, being very goal-oriented, will become visibly and audibly excited if she sees or acquires something that leads her closer to accomplishing some task, particularly during those light bulb moments during an investigation. She might even get carried away (and accidentally step on people), and as stated above, her enthusiasm can sometimes end up clouding her judgments.

Misora has a sense of duty and also pride. She accepted L's request for assistance in the LABB murder case out of obligation, though grudgingly since L acted “like it was a given that she would cooperate with him,” which “showed no respect for her pride.” Despite this initial impression, she grew to respect L greatly and trusts him entirely. Naomi is also something of a perfectionist and is very hard on herself whenever she fails at a task. After being put on temporary suspension for failing to shoot the child criminal, the agent faced immense guilt that “hung on her shoulders like a dead weight.”

Although Naomi prefers independence in the work setting, as “she was not good at working in groups, and her ability shone brightest when she escaped the bindings of organizations and worked on her own,” she cannot survive solely by her lonesome, and she knows it. Left alone, she will likely become aimless in what she wants to do. Her life was described as “walking through a town she didn't know,” such that “if she lived her life over again, she was sure she'd end up somewhere completely different.” Therefore, Naomi readily tries new things (within acceptable limits) but is never really sure of whether or not something truly fits her, having taken up Capoeira, riding motorcycles, joining the FBI (possibly all on a whim) and securing rapid promotion only to quit two years later, giving up everything for the sake of starting a family with her fiance, Raye Penber. And throughout everything, although content, Naomi never seemed to be completely happy. She was neither entirely happy being in the FBI, constantly “sick and tired of all the nonsense that came with the job,” nor retiring and relaxing by Raye's side, being unable to completely shut down her pesky “habit” of investigating cases.

When it comes to social interaction, Naomi has mere average social skills. She is very cautious around people whom she meets for the first time but also, in general, very respectful towards others and expects them to return the favor. Odd and just plain creepy behaviors displeasures her greatly, as evidenced by her complete repugnance towards Ryuzaki (B), whose mannerisms were so offensive it gave her nightmares. Generally, she likes to keep things in their place: work should be serious, conduct should be within publicly respectable limits, the setting and image matters. If something does not sit right with Misora, she will not hesitate to speak her mind (and administer a good helping of sarcasm or two). In addition, Naomi would much rather put up a good fight than to back down when threatened, a trait that has earned her the oh-so-affectionate nickname, Misora Massacre, amongst her fellow FBI colleagues.

Strengths:
Raw intelligence-wise, she's pretty top-tier. She knows Capoeira as both a dance and battle form. Knows her way with guns, basic hacking skills, and the like. She's also emotionally stable when under pressure and never gives up on her goals.

Weaknesses:
If you can find the right buttons, Naomi can be quite easily manipulated. Namely, if someone dangles something in front of her that leads her closer to solving a case or achieving some goal, she may temporarily drop her guard in order to carry out her duty. She's also quick to judge and can be deceived by first impressions. Naomi has morals even if she is not aware of them. She has something of a weak spot for children, for instance. This poses as a limitation as she can't bring herself to carry out certain acts that could work to her advantage.

History:
Naomi Misora grew up in Japan. After graduating high school, she continued to pursue her education in the US and later joined the FBI, where she met coworker, Raye Penber, with whom she started dating. Despite being exceptionally good at her job, Naomi was not very popular at the workplace (possibly due to jealousy from fellow colleagues).

While on an assignment to investigate a drug cartel, she had been unable to pull the trigger on a 13 year old criminal, letting him get away and blowing the entire mission. Her superiors took this as an opportunity to put her on temporary suspension from the FBI. At that time, Naomi was already contemplating quitting the organization due to the unnecessary pressures involved when L, the greatest detective in the world, contacted her in private, requesting Naomi's help in solving a series of murders dubbed the Wara Ningyo murders (and later renamed the Los Angeles BB Murder Cases). Until that point, murders of three seemingly unrelated people (with really bad alliterative names) had been committed and a fourth one was predicted to occur. Naomi's task was to investigate these three crime scenes, figure out what tied them together, prevent the fourth murder, and apprehend the perpetrator.

Upon investigating the first crime scene, Naomi met self-proclaimed detective, Ryuzaki, a man with odd mannerisms that immediately earned her distrust. Despite utter repugnance towards the man, Misora ultimately reluctantly agreed to work together with him. Throughout the investigation, Naomi managed to piece together the clues with hints from Ryuzaki. She also kept in touch with L through phone, and the latter eventually revealed the murderer's identity, a man called B who was raised at Wammy's House, an orphanage with the goal of fostering genius children so that one of them would become the next L.

With Ryuzaki's aid, Naomi was able to determine where the fourth and final murder was to take place. There were two possible locations, so the two decided to split up. While Naomi waited for the criminal to make his appearance at her assigned post, she mentally backtracked through some recent events and unexplained details regarding the crime scenes, suddenly figuring out that Ryuzaki had been trying to lead her astray from the start, that he was actually the murderer, B. She immediately darted to the room he was stationed at and bust open the door to find Ryuzaki, B, a flaming mess, having attempted to burn himself to death, committing a suicide disguised as murder in order to create an unsolvable case for the great detective, L. But Misora managed to extinguish the flames and arrest him in time, thereby solving the case on behalf of L.

Naomi's success in the LABB case earned her great prestige in the FBI. Following B's capture, she was invited back to the bureau. While on her way, she met the real L, who made the mistake of trying to hug her as a form of greeting, which was perceived by Misora as assault and earned the detective a nice kick down the stairs. Although she noticed something strange yet familiar about the man (who also introduced himself as Ryuzaki), Naomi for some reason could not believe that he was L himself, and she would continue to convince herself that she had only ever interacted with him through a computer and phone.

First Person Sample:

Cannot believe this.

[The woman's voice is harsh. Who ever this is, she clearly sounds annoyed not to mention exasperated. It has been a long day.]

What?

[There's a scraping noise as the recording device gets lifted from the bed. Naomi has finally discovered the blackberry and is now examining it. So, this really had been a kidnapping attempt after all, and she's not alone. As Misora scrolls through the contact list, she suddenly realizes that she's being recorded.

There's a loud THUD as she drops the device on the ground as though it had been coated with a layer of acid.

Naomi scowls at it, feeling absurd as if someone had just pulled a juvenile prank on her. None of this made any sense. Why would someone abduct her and leave her alone in a room, unrestrained and still armed? Why would they even take the time to decorate that room in the likeness of the one she had back home? A stalker or voyeur of some sort? She had to choke back some vomit at the thought. More importantly, why this device? It had come preloaded with numbers, possibly other victims'. Perhaps it belonged to the kidnappers themselves. Regardless, clearly who ever sent her here had intended for her to use it to contact those others (it's unlikely that kidnappers so detail-oriented about making this room look exactly like her own would be careless enough to mistakenly leave a phone in plain sight), but that made all the less sense.

How irritating it is to play into someone else's hands, but what else is there to do? Naomi picks the device back up and clears her throat.]

Hello. Is anyone getting this?

[She deliberates for a moment but finally decides to say no more. She already feels silly enough as it is.]

Third Person Sample:

She watched the ambulance take him away, that charred lump of what used to be flesh and man. Well, psychologically speaking, "man" was a very loose term. Naomi sighed inaudibly to herself. Were some people really just born unsalvageable or had there always been a choice? Even so, why would anyone ever choose such a route had they not been made defective from the start? She felt the same migraine she used to get when the unanswerable flooded her mind, so instead she opted to push it all aside.

Perhaps it would have been better to just let him exterminate himself, for everyone's sake. This game, as it must have been for Ryuuzaki, no, B, to go to such elaborate lengths, was never hers to begin with. Though, she supposes it had been her duty to act on behalf of L, and L would not have wanted his opponent to carry to conclusion what horror he had started, as that would mean losing a case for the very first time. However ...

Naomi tore her gaze away from that morbid, lamentable display and headed back up the stairs.

Even without L, could she have really let a criminal's life slip away knowing that she could have saved it? One step after another, Misora pulled herself up the stairs. That did not stop the new downpour of questions. The bureau must have found out about her part in the case by now. L would probably make sure she didn't get in any trouble for it, though that was not really a concern anymore. What mattered was the spotlight, and no one would be able to get rid of that. Naomi was not too sure whether or not she would like the attention, both positive and negative (there were those who had already been jealous of her as it was, after all). It was just that she had spent so long contemplating quitting the agency. For this sudden change to occur, well, it just threw her slightly off track.

She put her hand on the doorknob (what do you know, waist-height as always) and gave a twist.

Nothing changed. Everything left in exactly the same condition as she had last remembered. A glance at the mirror. She was still Naomi Misora. She had not changed.

With that, Misora picked up the phone she had hastely discarded during that momentary rush of excitement and dialed a familiar number one last time.

"It's done." She reported.
