Maria had contacted Tony. She'd arranged for some personal time with Fury and she knew she was to promptly return to work in three days' time. She had also ensured that no one from SHIELD would be keeping an eye on her, lest she take them down herself. She needed to be sure that no one would be around to witness her slip of judgement in action. She still didn't know what the hell she was doing.

In truth, it seemed like Tony ha slowly grown on her. She still thought he was an idiot, and she often wanted to strangle him, but it was almost... Endearing. A part of her wanted to know what would happen if she saw him outside all this craziness that was SHIELD and The Avengers.

She drove the motorcycle she had on lend from SHIELD to Stark Tower, parking it in the garage below. She was nervous. This wasn't the normal kind of venture that she was used to tackling. Her shooting skills wouldn't exactly help her, here. Hand-to-hand combat might still prove useful, though.

"JARVIS, could you let Tony know I'm here?" she called, trusting that JARVIS had probably already done so.

Maria couldn't really tell what had happened. After Clint left, she felt a little numb from it all. She didn't know if he'd be back, she didn't know if there was going to be anything between them anymore. Despite herself, she found that she desperately hoped to hear him knocking on her door. She had been completely honest with him - as well as herself - and scared her to think that it might have been for nothing. She wished she could get a handle on what he was thinking. She wished she could hold him.

When she finally moved, she went to go take a shower and then she went to go break out a bottle of whiskey. She didn't pour a lot for herself, but just a little to take some of the edge off. She'd been run through an emotional gauntlet and she still wasn't sure exactly how she felt. Not good. She'd been so angry at him before. She wasn't sure if she had the energy for angry anymore. It all seemed so stupid now. Maybe it would be a lot easier to convince Fury that she really had just gotten sick. A day or two off to recover might be good right now.

She took another sip from her glass and stared at the wall, waiting for her hair to dry. She had just a loose hoodie and pair of shorts on, no makeup. She was going to stay in her room for a while. Fuck anyone who tried to tell her otherwise. If she was lucky, Coulson would wait to come around. She knew the sick thing wouldn't work on him.

Tony: so wrong it's kinda right? nope, still not right
Steve: file this under a BAD FUCKING IDEA
Dum Dum: don't you ever do that again you sonofabitch
Steve take 2: COMMITMENT maybe
Clint: he kind of sucks at apologizing but he has other uses for his tongue

Maria didn't question it anymore, having Clint sleep next to her. It was something they had fallen into, first when they'd started having sex, but now sometimes they just slept. It felt good, to hold him close, to have his heart beat and steady breathing as simple lullaby. He comforted her when she felt like she was going to start tearing her hair out, or when she felt like she was surrounded by idiots. He had become something of an anchor to her.

Clint was with her now, having already lulled her to sleep. She was in his arms, sleeping better than she could remember. She felt safe with him. She wasn't completely sure when exactly she'd become so assured of this fact. She, who had never relied on anyone for anything in her life, suddenly was finding sorely needed comfort in another person's arms. But she didn't question it.

Stark Tower - default canon, taken immediately after the events taken place in Midtown. Maria and the others piece Manhattan back together and figure out how to be a team.

Feel My Heart Begin - Steve is unlike anyone Maria has ever known. He's sweet, charming, and an utter gentleman. A part of her wonders if she really deserves this fluttery, happy feeling that he gives her. After saving him from an enemy base, Steve and Maria get closer. He moves slow, but she is more than willing to fumble through this with him.

Vegas - What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. ... Right? Only when it doesn't and you find yourself married to your co-worker. Natasha and Maria are figuring out dating and wedded bliss all the same time. In secret. Because that won't make life at the office slightly awkward at all. Strangely enough, it seems to be working so far.

Lost and Loaded - Maria and Clint have known each other a long time. They'd gone on missions and trained with each other before Maria had been promoted, and now things were different. Maria had even almost forgotten how much she liked being around him-- that is until one day gone terribly wrong. They had been attacked and none other than Clint Barton himself had been the one to pull her out of the fire. And since then, Maria has been keeping an eye on the man that she failed to save.

How Do You Solve A Problem - Tony and Maria. It's almost as good as West Side Story. Almost.

Behind Blue Eyes - Maria and Dum Dum are a thing. Deal with it. She calls him Doc and likes his mustache.

Sitcom Avengers - Far more mundane and much more hilarious than normal Avengers. Actually, there's little avenging going on. But Maria is the adopted niece of Nick Fury who is the super of the building where Steve, Thor, and the rest of the gang live. Shenanigans ensue. More information here.
