What is a pilonidal cyst?

A pilonidal cyst is a pocket or cavity in the skin that typically forms near the tailbone at the top of the crease between the buttocks. It often contains hair, debris, and skin cells, and may become inflamed or infected over time. Symptoms can range from a small, painless lump to redness, swelling, and drainage if infection occurs. While common and treatable, pilonidal cysts can be uncomfortable and may recur without proper management. At Aesthetic Solutions, we are able to reduce the hair production that can contribute to recurrence.

Treatment

reducing Pilonidal cyst triggers at Aesthetic Solutions

While pilonidal cysts may require medical or surgical management when actively infected, treatment in our office focuses on reducing recurrence.

Laser hair removal is used to decrease hair density in the area, helping to minimize ingrown hairs and trapped debris that contribute to cyst formation. By addressing this underlying factor, laser hair reduction can play an important role in preventing future flare ups. Treatment is tailored based on hair density, skin type, and individual risk factors.
