Our Story

It All Began in 1989

It was an important year – the birth of AESP and Taylor Swift. Back then, we were known as the Association for Demand Side Managment Professionals (ADSMP) – what a mouthful. We were young, volunteer-led with no staff and there was no one else doing what we did. We had twenty-five members.

Flash Forward to 1995

It was the year of Batman Forever, Gangsta’s Paradise, and OJ. The industry had changed some, and in the AESP spirit, we didn’t feel that ADSMP really fit us anymore. So, we became the Association of Energy Services Professionals to reflect a broader mission and impact.

2007: We Got Our First Humans

It was a big year. Clean energy and efficiency investments rose to an all-time high of $148 Billion US. We hired our first full-time employees. Efficiency was making inroads, and we were there to help.

2022: We Got A Refresh. An Evolution if You Will.

Times had changed. And so had we. Thanks to the tireless efforts of so many, clean energy, efficiency, and human-centric design were all converging to create a new way of doing the business of energy. Today, we simply go by AESP.

Today

We continue to be North America’s leader in efficiency, demand flexibility, and solutions integration. Today, we boast 6,300+ members across the United States and Canada. Through strong industry partnerships and leadership, our community is leading the way.
