Midnight Ballerina #blitz

Rituals and Relics, Book One

Romantasy

Date Published: February 14, 2026

She was born a rarity.

Lysandra has spent her life in a silk cage, dancing for a monster who sees her
hybrid blood as the key to tearing open the veil between worlds. She is
half-Fae, half-mortal, a living anomaly trained to suppress every flicker of
power that could expose what she truly is.

Then they send a Destroyer to end her.

Rylan is the Order’s most lethal weapon, forged without mercy, raised without
attachment, sworn to eliminate hybrid corruption wherever it breathes. His
mission is simple: observe, confirm, and execute.

But some targets refuse to be prey.

When the tether breaks and Lysandra’s power erupts beyond all control, she and
Rylan are thrown into a deadly alliance that will force them both to betray
everything they were made to be. He will break sacred oaths. She will shatter
the chains of her gilded prison. Together, they will ignite a love so
consuming it will literally rewrite the laws of death.

Midnight Ballerina is a dark romantasy of obsession, sacrifice, and a
bond forged in blood and shadow, where the monster you were raised to fear
becomes the only one who sees you as more than a weapon.

For readers who crave: Fae romantasy, mortal/immortal romance,
possessive heroes, powerful heroines, found family, he-falls-first, and love
that burns worlds.

mystical dragon named Killian, bound in chains by a spell, whose fate will

Prologue

Pattin didn’t know what they were fighting for. All he
knew was that when their commander yelled the order he was to let loose his
arrows toward another trench opposite theirs somewhere in the Red Sands desert.
Rumor was they were fighting over mines, dukes, power, and money. Nothing he’d
ever be privy to. It didn’t matter. He was here because he’d been conscripted.

He’d been in this trench for nine days straight. Hot,
drenched in sweat, sick to his stomach, and with little to eat or drink. Tired
of swatting flies and stepping over the bodies of his comrades, he was ready to
leave. No one wanted to be here, especially not the lads from Bidsworth, and
especially not on the front lines.

He spat the dust out of his mouth and bit another piece
of jerky.

“When is she going to come for us?” he asked his
friend.

“Tonight, they said. Maybe,” Ivan whispered.

“What do you mean, maybe? She promised.”

“She can only take five at a time.”

“Bloody Marks, she’s been here every night for a week.
What’s she going to do, get everyone but us? The more people who leave, the
less chance of survival for those who stay. I’m too young to die in this rat
hole.”

Ivan shrugged—a hint that he wasn’t happy about the
situation either.

“We could try and make a run for it on our own,” Pattin
whispered, his lips barely moving, glancing around the desolate countryside.

Over the sand, the heat waves danced, crafting a mirage
of water, a deceptive illusion that only a fool would pursue. Bait for the
enemy. Pattin licked his lips, wishing for a drink of cool water from the
springs in Bidsworth, his homeland, a wealthy duchy whose stone structures
mirrored the color of the red earth. Here in the wasteland, iron ore poisoned
the vegetation, and there was nothing but dust as far as the horizon. The
soldiers hated this place, and rumors of desertion were burning the ears of the
agents at base. The officers were watching the troops like hawks.

“Fool. We’d have bolts in our backs, dead. Is that what
you want? If I’m going to desert, I’m doing it with Kezia.” Ivan wiped the
sweat from his brow; his face caked with red earth. Even his eyelashes were
laden with dirt.

“What makes her so special that she can get us out with
no one noticing?”

Ivan snickered and glared at him. “She’s the duke’s
daughter, remember? Plus, she’s smart, crafty, and wicked.”

“Duke sabotages his own army through his daughter!”
Pattin mumbled.

“Stop complaining or she’ll never come and get you.”

Pattin wiped his brow, his mouth fixed in a frown. She
might not come for him at all. It’s everyone else’s luck to be saved by a
duchess.

“Heads up!” The dreaded warning arrived just
as a flurry of bolts blotted out the sun.

Pattin covered his head with his shield. Ivan lifted
his own targe to cover his body while the plummeting projectiles thundered on
it.

“Move!” came the command.

Like a terrified beetle, Pattin crouched on the ground
and joined the others, locking his shield with Ivan’s as the company crawled
through the trench, hands and knees bleeding, while avoiding the corpses of
friends who didn’t survive. Away from the onslaught they moved, abandoning
their supplies. Someone would be sent back for them when the sun settled on the
horizon and the two moons rose.

Soon everyone here would have to leave the trenches and
charge at the enemy. That was a standard maneuver, and it was just a matter of
time. Hand to hand combat would kill him, Pattin was certain. With practiced
ease, he could loose an arrow, always striking the mark. But his end would come
by the cold steel of a sword. He hoped it would be tomorrow. He wasn’t ready to
die today.

Maybe Kezia would draw his name and come for him
tonight. Maybe he would live through this bloody war, after all.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I’m not doing anything special. I got my husband a Valentine’s Pin from Disneyworld as a gift. He collects Disney pins. I grabbed it when I was at Disney just over a week ago. My husband got me a sugar free box of candy that I already finished off, lol. He gave it to me in January. So, no, I wasn’t a pig this morning!

I babysat last night so my daughter and SIL could go out to dinner. I got candy hearts for the kids and I’ll drop them off later today.

I had a wonderful birthday. I made my own cake and it is delicious. Chocolate cake with chocolate chips. All sugar free. The frosting on the other hand it chock full of sugar. I made a lemon cream cheese frosting. Yum. And colored it pink. My can of frosting was nasty, so I had to make my own. Good old Betty Crocker cookbook to the rescue!

I celebrated my birthday by going to Epcot for the Art Festival. I had a wonderful time. Took a public class on drawing a Disney character that was given by one of the Disney artists. Enjoyed the chalk art around the park, ate lots of special foods made just for the festival and checked out all the artists kiosks around Epcot. I loved it. Their festivals make the park even better.

I hope you all enjoy your weekend whether you celebrate V day or not!a

Here’s some of my photos from Disney.

Another Sunny Saturday!

Well, I don’t know if it is or not. I haven’t peeked out the window. I’m writing this in the dark, I just hope it’s sunny later. I leave for a short trip to Florida on Monday. Just a girl’s trip. Me, my daughter and granddaughters. Heading to, (you guessed it!) Disneyworld. Epcot is having an art fair and I wanted to go. I was figuring next year, but I guess since I said that in 2025, not thinking, we are going now.

Hubby decided to bow out this trip. He said he’d be happy to stay home.

This should put my exercise routine into overdrive as I have absolutely no clue how many miles we’ll walk. And we will. I’m hoping to just take my under seat bag as our trip is only four days. I managed to go to Arizona for a week with just that and did fine. I started laundry and started packing yesterday. I’ll finish up today. Then probably hit the grocery store for stuff the hubby will eat while I’m gone.

Other than that, my life has been pretty calm. No snow to shovel this week, though it’s been bone chillingly cold. It got so cold, two of my security cameras stopped working along with the garage door openers. One has since come back online and the openers started working again. Yay!

I’ve been doing a bit of sewing-patches on girl scout vests. The girls are heading around this weekend to go door to door and the vest lets everyone know what they are doing. The neighborhoods around here all know it’s cookie time!

To keep busy, because I don’t like to dust, though I’ll have to, shortly, (I’m allergic to dust!) I’ve been building Legos. It was international Lego day this past week. Luckily, my kids know I like Legos, so I got a couple sets for Christmas. I’ve built the Villain VHS Lego and Toothless that last couple of weeks. Toothless is adorable and is sitting next to me on the shelf of my desk.

Bundle Up! and resolutions

Looks like most of the country is going to try to stay warm this weekend. Friday the schools were closed around us in Wisconsin. Of course, I had a chiropractor appointment and when I started up the car, I checked the temp. It said 10 degrees while the car was in the garage. I thought the weather reports had exaggerated what we were going to get. I backed out and the temp dropped to -12, then to -15. That was bad, lol.

Chiropractor went well. Weather stayed cold all day, so I made beef stew and chocolate chip cookies. Definitely a good day for the oven to run.

I did make a New Year’s resolution. The normal, I’m going to get healthier! I’ve been seeing a dietician for a few months and already started working on my diet. I also am now seeing an endocrinologist for my diabetes. We’ve been seeing my A1C drop, so it’s working! It has been a lot of medication changes, but I’m actually swallowing less pills, so yay! I was on ozempic for years and it did nothing but seem to eat away at my muscle definition, so that was changed to a different injectable, Mounjaro. We’ve had to adjust it each month, but my sugar looks like it is evening out. Again, yay!

Plus I added exercise. That was the main resolution. And I’m following it. I’ve been using my treadmill again if the weather is bad. (see above, it’s soooo bad) Anything under 40 degrees, I’m not willing to walk a couple of miles. A quarter mile is fine. That’s the distance to my daughter’s house and I hate wasting gas, so I always walk to her house unless the weather is trying to kill me.

I’ve been keeping it up. I’m starting to feel so much better. I used to exercise every day and believe me, I know I have to work back up to the hour or more a day I used to do. I’m at a solid 30 minutes and plan on increasing it next week. My goal is to reach 2 miles of walking minimum a day, then add in my senior exercises. LOL. It’s an app. It is what I used to do and I was in such better shape and happier.

I’ve been alternating my treadmill with shoveling. I checked my exercise app after one of the recent snowfalls and it was just over 2 miles of walking. I seriously do too much walking back and forth! My drive is single car width, but we can park 4-5 cars nose to rear, so it’s crazy I put in that much walking. Plus shoveling the ramp, rear patio and front sidewalk and stairs. Definitely counts as exercise in my book!

I wanted to add writing as a resolution and I realized that when I physically feel better, My mental state improves and my creativity begins to flow. So, I know that will come. My brain is already floating ideas around. A win/win situation.

My exercise room is in the basement and after a couple of minutes down there on Friday, I bundled up and went out to the garage to bring a portable heater down there. So what if it keeps the mice warm? My pipes won’t freeze!

Well, stay warm and bundled up. I’m planning on it.

This is from this past week! Such fluffy stuff.

Eternally Beautiful Summer Nights #blitz

Horror / Paranormal

Date Published: 09-08-2025

Experience the eternal, beautiful dread of summer nights, where every shadow
holds a story and the past refuses to stay buried.

Welcome back to the world of *Summer Scares*,
where the warmth of the season does nothing to
banish the chill of the supernatural. In this pulse-pounding fourth volume,
Martha Wickham weaves five tales of dolls, deadly secrets, and the ghosts that
glitter in the darkness.
Inside, you will encounter the terror of:
*Cursed Heirlooms:
A vintage collector doll named Reiny uses an old, randomly chiming
grandfather clock as her only way to communicate, and you’ll find out just how
protective (and creepy) she can be in “Girl Protected,” “Reiny’s Clock
Terror,” and “Reiny’s Last Guardian.”
*Glittering Ghosts:
When Felicity moves into an apartment, she finds glitter that won’t go away and hears
tinkling bells—a terrifying trail left behind by the ghost of Lisa and
an important clue for a murderer on the run in “The Glitter Veil.”
*The Dollhouse Trap:
Curious teens fix up an old dollhouse found in an abandoned
Victorian, only to start a haunting that communicates its terrible ending.
When Terri blames the trapped spirits for an accident, he must compromise with
the ghosts to escape their approaching wrath.
These are stories for your
eternal summer—a chilling journey where the dolls are more than just
toys, the hauntings are inescapable, and every beautiful summer night ends
with a scream.
Excerpt
Reiny’s Clock Terror

The grandfather clock chimed loudly and could be heard from Sara’s
bedroom. It was closed and she ran to it. It said nine o’clock, but it was the
middle of the afternoon. Sara Greyston wondered why it rang when it
hadn’t in over a year. Her parents heard it too. The clock was very old
and was built by her great-grandfather, George. She moved the arms to three
o’clock. There wasn’t much hope that it was going to work right. She
wasn’t sure what time it was.
She ran into her mother’s
bedroom. “Can we take it and get it fixed?”
“I
don’t know. I don’t think so. It’s only for show,” her
father said.
When she got to her room she checked the time on her cell
phone. It said ten am. Her watch was right, but she never wore it. The time on
her computer also said ten am.
“Did the power go out?” she
asked her mother.
“No,” her mother responded. “I
don’t think so.”
Maybe that was it, and she shrugged. It was an old
clock and an old house, and it had been in the family for at least a century.
She had just graduated from high school and had time to do what she wanted.
All she really wanted to know was when her friends were going to the beach and
which school she should go to in the fall.
Just as she feared, the
grandfather clock randomly chimed. She sat up in bed and checked her watch. It
said one in the morning. It was so cold she got up to get hot tea and turn on
the heat. Afterwards, she lay down and checked her watch. It still said one in
the morning. In the morning, she would have to reset it. Lying there, she
suddenly heard small footsteps in the attic. Reiny hadn’t seen that doll
since Mary died, and the doll was locked with a bolt so that it couldn’t
get out. The protector doll had become a threat in high school a couple of
years ago.
Come early morning, she grabbed the keys and unlocked the
attic door. There near the door was Reiny. Her lifelike eyes were staring at
Sara. She picked her up, and the clock chimed. It was annoying, but somebody
in the family had made it. She took the doll downstairs and shut the door
behind her. She had planned to lock it up somewhere still.
She sat in the
kitchen eating her eggs. From the corner of her eye, she could have sworn she
saw the doll turn its head toward her. Her mom entered the kitchen.
“Mom,
what’s the name of the relative that built the big broken clock?”
Sara asked.
“George Greyson. He was a clock-maker and the original
owner of this house. He was great at it. I’m sure there are pictures and
tools he used to use up in the attic,” she answered sipping her
coffee.
“I’ll definitely go up there,” Sara
said. Her mom noticed how the doll sat in her green and white dress near
Sara.
“That’s Reiny,” Sara said. “I believe she
may be controlling the clock.”

Do you watch a lot of TV?

I don’t. I can go days without the TV on. My husband is the opposite. Television is his lifeline. News, 24/7. Ugh. But, I do like certain shows and movies. I’m a big fan of gameshows. The Floor is one of our favorites. But, my obsession?

Stranger Things. I’m hyped up from watching the latest episodes that dropped on Christmas Day. Yes, still! I’m thrilled to see the final (sob) episodes on New Years Eve. And yes, that is my NYE plans, lol.

It’s just enough weirdness to capture and keep my attention. Not to mention, I graduated HS in the 80’s. Joined the US Navy in the 80’s, and just had a blast as a young adult in the 80’s. Stranger Things is like experiencing the 80’s again; a wild taste of the freedom from that decade of my life. Of course I also got married and divorced in the 80’s, but nothing is perfect!

I realized I left this on draft instead of hitting publish. Oops. I’ll be sitting in front of the TV on NYE watching the end of Stranger Things.

And this year, I’m doing a resolution. A couple actually. I’ll post them in the New Year and I’ll let you know if I managed to do them already. Wish me luck!

Here’s just a couple of little gifts I got myself. Always thinking of the future, 😆.

Twelve days to go! #Christmas

Christmas is just around the corner. Two weeks away and I’ve not one decoration up. Most of the gifts I’ve bought are wrapped, though. I’m still working on the ones I’m making. I can’t post pictures because I guarantee if I do, it will be the time the family checks out my blog!

We are festive this month, with Christmas, my son’s, daughter’s and husband’s birthdays all this month. So every week of December there is something! Plus my late father in law had his birthday this month, and one my brothers in law. December doesn’t allow for a lot of breathing time.

I have to say, since NaNoWriMo is no more, I didn’t sit down and write a book in November. I miss writing. But I never put words down in December. I took 2026 off from writing events. But that just means I have more time to write. And sew. I love to sew. Since I have four sewing machines, that is definitely evident. I have one regular machine, a heavy duty machine, and embroidery machine and a serger. They all do different things, but I use my regular machine the most. I’ve needles and thread and material everywhere. My office/sewing/craft room is my happy place. I just need to straighten it all up again. I can’t concentrate to write in a disaster. And it is a disaster right now.

I just finished a set of earrings my granddaughter asked me to make. Jewelry making being just one of my crafts I enjoy. With winter setting in with a vengeance (it snowed last night again) and temperatures hitting below zero, I’ll be snug in my room. I sewed up some stockings since my kids bring their stockings from home for me to fill, lol. And they are huge! So, to control my stuffing, I made some. I have two still to make but ran out of the red velvet. So, next year, I’ll have all of them made. Plus, I had to make one for my new granddaughter. For her house and mine. This is the one for her house.

Do you make Christmas gifts, buy them or do a mix of both? I was thinking about doing and freezing lasagna for both of my kids, but not sure I’ll have the time. My future (hopefully) daughter in law makes trays of cookies for all of us to take home. They are so good! She’s a wonderful baker.

Currently I feel and sound a bit scatterbrained! My mind is running in circles. It is the season.

My mind is on Christmas, then a trip I’ve planned in February and April. One to Disneyworld again and then out to Arizona to enjoy the sun after what is shaping up to be a snow filled winter. And to visit family. I was out in September for a week for a death in the family. Not exactly a vacation. April will be a better time to visit.

Well, happy holidays to you all! Stay safe, happy and healthy!
