Technical Committee

The Technical Committee establishes and maintains the high standards of the professions of Mountain Guiding and Climbing Instruction in Canada by ensuring that the technical standards around which all guiding and instruction activities revolve are accurate, current, relevant and adhered to.

Mission

The Technical Committee establishes and maintains the high standards of the professions of Mountain Guiding and Climbing Instruction in Canada by ensuring that the technical standards around which all guiding and instruction activities revolve are accurate, current, relevant and adhered to.

 

Structure

This staff committee includes the ACMG Technical Director as chair, and five or more ACMG members in good standing. The ACMG President and Executive Director are ex-officio members.

 

Authority

This committee has the authority to decide on technical matters involving individual members and authority to recommend changes to technical matters involving the Association and course training (Active Agent). The committee will carry out projects approved by the Executive Director.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with ACMG Training and Assessment Program (TAP) staff to develop and maintain the technical standards of all parts of the TAP
  • Represent the ACMG at IFMGA meetings in order to remain current with international technical standards and information
  • Update technical manuals as necessary
  • Consult with the Mentorship and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Committee on mentorship and CPD activities for ACMG members
  • Determine the acceptability of First Aid Certifications that are from providers that are not on the ACMG-ratified list
  • Determine the acceptability for reinstatement of members who have been inactive for more than one year
  • Report to and advise the ACMG Executive Director and Board of Directors when requested to do so
  • Recruit new members as necessary
