Pain sucks. Achy Penguin provides an approachable way for kids to locate, quantify, and feel empowered to do something about their pain. This app incorporates techniques such as breathing, relaxation, visualization, and distraction. Pain is complex, and Achy Penguin is meant to be another tool to help when appropriate.
The usability of Achy Penguin was evaluated as part of a research study out of SickKids Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. The study was published in the Canadian Journal of Pain in 2018. https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/24740527.2018.1534543
Feedback from the study directly informed updates to the app. Our hope is to do more studies to continually improve on the effectiveness of Achy Penguin.
