I also welcome constructive criticism and advice, as well as canon corrections whenever necessary. No one is infallible, and, although this is my interpretation of the character, I welcome input from other fans and writers. It’s always good to know what works and what doesn’t.

[Talia - once known as Princess Talia Malak-el-Dahshat of Arathea, now serving as a lady-in-waiting to Queen Beatrice of Lorindar - is a difficult woman to find, but if you say the right thing in the right place you might attract the attention of someone who will pass the pass the message on.

The stories – the stories that started with ‘once upon a time’ and ended in ‘and they all lived happily ever after’ – were always set in a faraway land. The bards and the storytellers probably hadn’t had Anatole in mind, although the dead city, a maze of ruinous buildings and tangled vegetation, reminded Talia inexorably of what was likely to remain of her childhood home. The desert winds were harsh. The bricks had started to deteriorate long before she’d opened her eyes. In another hundred years would a crumbling castle, a thicket of dead thorns and a tale told so many times that nobody remembered where it had started be all that remained of the Malak-el-Dashat legacy?

Night had fallen in the city, but the ship – if this monstrosity could really be called a ship or compared to the vessels that sailed the oceans around Lorindar – didn’t sleep any more than Talia did. A number of her fellow prisoners were walking the streets and, even if they hadn’t been, the eerie organic walls were awake and alive and pulsed beneath Talia’s hand when she stopped to investigate further. She’d travelled on a living ship before, a vessel carved from the tree of the dryad that captained it, but this was different. Snow would have loved a chance to work out the nature of the spell that powered Stacy. Talia just wanted a chance to put the myriad of weapons hidden about her person to good use.

She was no stranger to battle, but she hated waiting. And she hated being confronted with a problem that she couldn’t fight her way through. Ever member of the crew knew what they wanted to achieve, but none of them knew how to achieve it or how long it would take them to get there. They didn’t even know if a victory was possible.

It’s about time you made your choice. I don’t like the idea of leaving Lorindar, but I liked your indecision even less.

And, before you have a chance to start considering it, don’t even think about looking for Snow or Danielle or any of the others. If this ship is as dangerous as you say, I’d rather be on my own. I don’t want any of them to get hurt.

You can stop trying to think of ways for people to find out who I am, too. I’ve spent most of my life trying to leave the story of Sleeping Beauty behind. Let it stay a fairy tale.
