Unanticipated Accommodations Fund
Unanticipated Accommodations-Related Expense Fund
Also known as the UAREF! The acronym is not pretty, but this fund is a great benefit to Harvard schools, units, and student clubs and organizations that have significant unexpected accommodations-related expenses that were not budgeted for in advance. The amount granted will depend on demonstrated financial hardship, demonstrated short term need, and available balance of the Fund. The financial assistance does not need to be repaid.
Examples of reasons to apply for use of the Fund:
- Unanticipated need for American Sign Language interpreters
- Covering a student organization’s costs to provide accessible transportation for an off-campus student organization run event
- Unforeseen need for costly services (e.g. job coaching) or equipment (e.g. e-Ink monitor)
Exclusions
The Fund is not available for:
- Personal devices or services
- Captioning post-production recorded materials
- Live captioning a short (i.e., one hour) event hosted by a school
- Digital content accessibility remediation
- Major changes to a building or facility to increase accessibility
- Renewal of requests (i.e. each request is treated as one-time basis and is not renewable)
