2:04pm: House stuff
In the continuing saga of home improvement, today we removed the mirror in the downstairs bathroom and replaced it with a new medicine cabinet, we added a medicine cabinet to the master bath, added a new storage hook in the pantry and generally cleaned up some of the inside stuff.

2:09pm: Sick wife
FYI to all, mtgat is in the hospital. I took her to the ER Saturday morning, she was admitted Saturday afternoon. The recent flu she had has led to a build-up of fluid in the sac around the heart, she was the third one the cardiologist saw yesterday with this condition. Course of action is anti-inflamatories and a series of echo cardiograms to monitor the change in the fluid. Should be home later this week. No wi-fi at hospital therefore no net access. Please, for those in the area, no visitors.

5:28pm: Aftermath
So, had surgery on my ankle, again, back on 10 July. For about 2 weeks now I've been having a burning/tingling in the 4 little toes on that foot. Today I was standing in the dining room without socks, looked down and saw that one foot was the normal, for me, pale white while the other one, attached to the recently operated on ankle, was a deep red. Also saw swelling in the red foot and there was more heat coming off the foot than normal. First reaction, "Crap, it's infected." Called surgeon, got answering service, eventually got a hold of the doc who said to go to the ER so a doc there could look at it and to have the ER doc call the surgeon so they could talk about what's going on.

Upside: Not infected, neuropathic pain.
Downside: Cause unknown, scrip for new drug that will cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision and change in sexual function.

At what point do I just have them cut off the foot above the ankle?

2:29pm: Girlchild
So, am I wrong to be surprised that the Girlchild can make herself a PB&J sandwich? She said she was hungry, said what she wanted and then said she wanted to make it herself. Got the stool so she could reach the counter, got all the stuff she needed and proceeded to make herself the sandwich. And did a good job, got everything spread out nicely and then put it all together.

It just seems weird to me that she can do this, I wasn't aware that she was quite this self-sufficient.

8:56pm: Surgery tomorrow
You know something must be up when I'm posting. I go in tomorrow for orthopedic surgery on my left ankle in an attempt to correct a problem that has been going on for about a year now. If all goes well, I'll be back at work (for the first time in about 6 weeks) on the 13th. I'll be in a cast for 5-6 weeks but should be back to "normal" in 10-12 weeks.

Wish me luck.

3:50pm: It sucks to get old
So, a while back I did something, still don't know what, to my left ankle that resulted in a tear in a tendon. Took a while for the doc to figure out that's what it was but, once diagnosed, I was given an ankle brace to hopefully assist in the healing process. So, this morning, I'm coming down the stairs without my shoes and the brace slipped on the carpeted stairs causing me to fall, hit my head on the railing and then the wall and I slid down half a dozen stairs. Not a good way to start the day. Managed to stand up after a bit but was sore and vision was blurry. Based on this, mtgat took me to the acute care center before dropping Em at school and taking J.T. to the dentist.

Acute care doctor decided I needed CT scan and X-rays so they said I needed to go to the ER. No private ambulances were available so they called 911 to get an ambulance. The EMTs put me in a neck brace and onto the backboard for the ride to the ER. Once there, got the CT scan of head and neck (now I have proof there's a brain inside my head), X-rays of neck, back, and hips, urine test for blood, and blood tests. Doctors diagnoses, bruises. Okay, contusions but that's just a big word for bruises. Prescriptions for vicodan and a muscle relaxant.

This year seems like it has been a non-stop series of injuries and illnesses and I blame it all on getting old. It seems like one thing keeps leading to another and another and another. This sucks!

4:06pm: Bored, therefore meme
At a conference for work, bored by speakers so thought I'd post.

(Click here to post your own answers for this meme.)

I miss somebody right now. I don't watch much TV these days. I own lots of books.
I wear glasses or contact lenses. I love to play video games. I've tried marijuana.
I've watched porn movies. × I have been the psycho-ex in a past relationship. I believe honesty is usually the best policy.
I curse sometimes. × I have changed a lot mentally over the last year. I carry my knife/razor everywhere with me.  (Duh)

10:19am: Adventures in tools
So, while funshopper is here she decided to buy us a new dishwasher. This is a good thing, and it gave me a chance to be manly and use tools. Getting the old dishwasher out wasn't really that bad, the only problem was that the kitchen seems to have two sub-floors. There was the sub-floor the diswasher was on which is about 3/8 of an inch below the sub-floor that the linoleum is on. While this may not seem like a big deal the problem was that the feet on the dishwasher kept getting caught which made it a right pain in the ass to get out. Once we got it out, getting the new one in wasn't that bad, except for trying to get it square in the opening. But, it's in, it works and I managed to get it done in time to go out on a date with mtgat.

We went to dinner, saw GoF (not bad, definitely more of a suggested by the novel) and went to a local hotel to spend a night away from the kids. And the room had a jacuzzi. It's at times like that that I miss the hot tub I used to have.

And now, JT's b-day is here, amilyn's husband just arrived with their kids so I'm off to help.

10:49am: Yet more quizzes
Are we seeing a trend here? Hey, at least now I'm update my journal.

On a different note amilyn and her offspring were here Friday and Saturday. Also, funshopper is here for the week so she can be in town for JT's b-day. It's going to be an interesting week.

On yet another different note, I've discovered PartyPoker. I'm smart enough to stick to the play money rooms, but managed to spend like 5 hours last night playing. At least I'm getting my gambling fix in without risking any real money.

And now, more quizzes:

2:06pm: Better living through modern chemistry
There is something both comforting and disturbing in the fact that I can go to the doctor complaining of muscle pain in my back, shoulder and abdomen and be prescribed meds that make me feel like I've been spending time at a Dead show. Muscle relaxers and narcotic pain killers are my friend.

12:18am: Late night channel surfing
While flipping through chanels trying to find something to watch I came across the old (70's) Batman series. I had to stop and watch for the hopes that it would interfere with mtgat's writing. Watching Batman jump into a bath of sulphuric acid with no fears because "Alfred made these new costumes out of acid proof material". Oww, oww, oww.

There's also some satisfaction in watching the wife say, "They're in the Batcave right now". I think I managed to break her brain for at least a few seconds.
