The Great Debate- Part 2

The heart that I once had cannot withstand
Another breaking, love for the taking
A man cannot know the pains my heart has
Without being shattered like so much glass.
Betrayal and lies, love searing mine eyes
Feelings I despise, that you recognize.

I weep for you, friend, that you have suffered
I know the sting of untruth all too well
But one cannot allow darkness to win
Lest your soul become numb and unfeeling.

You speak of my soul, as though you are wise?
You know nothing of my endless anguish.
Imagine your heart ripped from your own chest
Imagine your lungs unable to breathe
Ev’ry happiness that I’ve ever known
Was used as bait to lure me to my doom
I have no heart, no soul left for mourning
I gave up my feelings for a cold life

I know not what to say, so I’ll leave you.
But know this: love does not give up, my friend.

Hearts

Those who love will learn to cry
Those who live will learn to die

He who is true will finally see
She who is honest will set herself free

The hearts that are strong are broken most often
The hearts that are weak are too hard to soften

I love you, I cry
I live for you, I die
I lie so I’m blind
When I’m honest, you leave me behind
My heart is broken and has been before
But I will never break yours to even the score

The Great Debate- Part 1

This rapidly ascending chaos spreads.
The house of cards I have built will collapse
No equilibrium, No balance, None
Can be reached between life’s play and passion

True, be what you say, but only in part
The balance has always been there, waiting
For one with the courage and wisdom to
Seek it out and call it by name: True Love!
Not this love that common bards chirp about
So blithely that like minds think them all wise

You speak of love, as though it lives and breathes
As real as the stars, the trees, and the leaves
I can’t argue that what I feel is real
But every breath that Love makes me steal
Is less a pleasure and more a burden
Than those that a free man would come to feel

There are diff’rent types of Love, and not all
Require a fall, some are climbs, some are dives
Love of work, love of joy, love of sadness
Love of greatness! Love of ev’rything good

These are not things to be discussed lightly.
Let me think on these matters for a while.
Indeed friend, take your time. I look forward
To our next meeting. Ponder you these thoughts.

The Ocean

The beating of the timeless waves crashing
The gentle cradle of life’s song swooning
Two opposite natures’ constant clashing
Come my friend and hear the ocean’s crooning

Life here: always simple, never easy.
Death here: a beautiful yet dismal gloom
Living here is to live unchained and free
Dying here is to buy another’s doom

It can be cold, dark, but never lifeless
For even in the depths there be dragons
Leviathan and Kraken, here they dwell
The briny bottom houses these old ones

Blue and blossoming, the ocean calls out
And all the world cant help but hear its shout.

The Schism

A wish, nothing more, is your memory.
A fading promise you’ve long since betrayed
Your voice used to inspire and embrace me
Now the rapture’s gone, it’s price harshly paid

You fell from my grace, I fell out of love
I burdened your very name with exile
The pain of our loss was all I dreamt of
Relishing the taste of my sorrows bile.

Now again we waltz, these feelings return
And though I warn my heart to be guarded
I know deep inside that I’ll never learn
And I’ll end up again broken-hearted

But still in my mind there glimmers some hope
That maybe by now, I’ve learned how to cope.

Apathy’s Entropy

My muse has left me; my passion is gone.
The words will not come, my thoughts suffocate
Under the weight of my brain’s stagnation
My rhymes have gone stale, my words lackluster

It should not affect me so, this dark thought
I cannot remember how to be sad,
How to be happy, I fear I’ve gone mad
It cannot be cured, this absence of hope.

Apathy is indeed a fearsome fate
For a poet, more so than most can know
Worse even than succumbing to my Hate
The death of my art deals a Mighty blow.

Insomnia

Sleep has forsaken me; rest will not come.
The Owl’s laughter mocks ev’ry waking night.
Dreams evade me, I know not where they run.
Ominous clouds shelter the Moon’s dimmed Light.

Vague to me now is a respite’s embrace
Foreign is the Concept of closed lashes
Sun and Stars blend, bleeding tears stain my face
A lonely bed calls, bereft of passion

Such endless Fatigue! Will it drive me Mad?
I mumble nonsense and see what’s not there
My Doom seems imminent and ironclad
When my demise arrives, will No one care?

Fully I believe that this is my End
Half-crazed and sleepless, my Soul wholly spent.

A Night of Rain

Mirth has ripped the sky asunder, pouring
Down a merry brew of frolicking sound
Pitter Patter! Drip Drop! The Night is gay
And the Moon bellows laughter at the joke.

The stars tumble across the storm soaked sky
Mighty Orion and Leo delight
As the jagged blazing grins saunter forth
Setting the heavens aflame in their wake

Quickly spent, though, is the celebration
Soon the meadows will be quiet again
Silent, serene, hallowed, unspoilt and cleansed
Save the rumbling departure of the World.

Love and Lovers

Love is not a thing of which to make light!
Love is the greatest of all the muses
Love brings Rhyme that refuses all reason
Love makes time sift through all of the seasons.

If Love were a song, it could make men weep
If Love could be painted, what a landscape
Then it would be, a masterpiece truly
A swirl of color!  Greater Galaxies
Hath not been made than all those ones with Love’s
True stars’ embrace. More powerful a force,
Even than Gravity, such strength has Love.

Love has no meter nor any measure
The greatest pronouncements cannot define
Love’s depth is vaster than Poets can say

Show not scorn for Love, but treat it in kind
For when a lover holds someone in mind
Such wonderment you shall ne’er again find
As strong and bold as two lovers can bind

The Stars’ Lesson

Are you Gods, Angels, shining points of hope?
Do you possess meaning or are you stale?
Do you shimmer at my gaze alone
Or shine selfishly ‘pon your lofty Throne?

Wistfully I turn my sight to the sky
Longingly I wish on all ye old kings
If you could but hear my solemn prayer
Then may-hap I could present myself bare

But a wish, so granted, would be for naught
A gift I would squander, and fall from grace
Losing sight of my earnings, all my gains
So keep your sparkling gifts, O lofty kings

Be not the engine of my avarice
I pray thee, tempt me no more, Night-born lights
I’ll not succumb to the ease of a wish
Instead I’ll learn your weighty lesson well:

When you wish upon a star, always be
Mindful of who and what you truly are.
