Biofeedback and Mindfulness in Everyday Life: Practical Solutions for Improving Your Health and Performance

by Inna Khazan, PhD
A mind-body approach to taking control of your physical and emotional health...Biofeedback is the process of training your body to control its involuntary actions, such as breathing and heart rate. Minor changes to these actions can significantly improve physical and emotional well- being. In Biofeedback and Mindfulness in Everyday Life, Harvard Medical School faculty member Inna Khazan pairs biofeedback techniques with mindfulness practice to address some of life’s most common ailments― from anxiety and fear to stress and insomnia. She begins with a description of basic physiological information, explaining concepts such as breathing and overbreathing. In Part Two she dives into the practice of mindfulness. And in Part Three she zeroes in on applying this mind-body approach to an array of common problems. Khazan’s approach outlines simple solutions for readers who want to improve the way they respond to challenges. She guides them through increasing their resilience and emotional flexibility while empowering them to take back control of their overall health.

Brain Dance

by Diane Grimard Wilson
Through the ages, human stories have been our most powerful teachers. Diane Grimard Wilson continues that time-honored tradition with her engrossing medical memoir, Brain Dance. It’s a candid, intimate, informative, and sometimes humorous account of Wilson’s journey from a random concussion through nontraditional treatments to a hard-won recovery that birthed a new calling—becoming an applied neuroscientist herself. Her story threads our shared human vulnerability with medical science for an accessible, inspiring journey. It’s a book people say reads like a novel they can’t put down.

  • Brain Dance deepens clinicians’ understanding of the world of traumatic brain injury and how their own values, knowledge and biases impact their patients.
  • It gives those who have suffered brain injury — to whatever degree and by whatever means — a compassionate companion.
  • It shares innovative brain-based and biofeedback tools to guide what can otherwise be a long, lonely, and confusing road to recovery.
  • It entices brain science junkies of all kinds to learn more about the field of neurofeedback, its founders and massive potential.

Brain Dance encourages us all to honor the pivotal role of science in our lives and the magnificent potential of the brain for making the world a better place.
