Application Information

Applicants must submit a complete grant application describing the aims, hypotheses, research design, and anticipated impact of the proposed project. Applications should clearly describe how the proposed research evaluates the real world impact of neuropsychological services, including outcomes related to patient care, treatment planning, healthcare utilization, service delivery, or other clinically meaningful outcomes.

Funding & Eligibility

Information about available funding, budget guidelines, and who may apply

Funding

It is anticipated that up to $30,000 in total funding will be available for the grant cycle and may be distributed among up to three funded projects.

Individual proposals may request funding up to $30,000 in direct costs, although smaller requests are encouraged to maximize the number of projects that can be supported.

The AACN Foundation encourages applicants to submit modest and well justified budgets, as this may allow the program to support a greater number of meritorious projects.

Note: Indirect costs will not be covered; if applicant institutions cannot waive such costs, they must be submitted as part of the direct cost budget.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include:

  • Doctoral-level psychologists
  • Graduate students currently enrolled in doctoral or master’s programs

Board certification or membership in the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology is not required.

International applications are welcome, provided the application clearly describes how the results of the proposed research will be relevant to the practice or delivery of clinical neuropsychological services, particularly within healthcare systems similar to those in which most AACN members practice.

Note: Members of the AACN Foundation Grants Committee or the AACN Foundation Board of Directors are not eligible to apply for or receive funding through this program.

Grant Monitoring

Awardees will be required to submit annual progress reports describing the status of the project and any outcomes achieved during the funding period. The Grants Committee will monitor project progress and ensure that funds are used in accordance with the terms of the award.

Application Scoring and Selection Criteria

Applications will be reviewed by a panel of three members of the AACN Foundation Grants Committee, with each reviewer independently scoring the proposal. The Grants Committee has included members from organizations such as the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology, the American Board of Pediatric Neuropsychology, and the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology, among others.

Each proposal will be evaluated using a 100 point scoring system, and funding decisions will proceed from the highest scoring meritorious proposals downward as funds permit.

40

Relevance to Goals

Clear demonstration that the proposed research evaluates clinically meaningful outcomes related to neuropsychological services and contributes to evidence based clinical practice. Applications should provide a compelling justification for the importance of the proposed work and its relevance to the goals of the grant program.

40

Scientific Merit

Appropriateness and rigor of the proposed research design, including subject selection, sample size, measurable outcome variables, proposed statistical analyses, and consideration of time factors involved in the grant period. When appropriate, justification for sample size and statistical approach through a formal power analysis is recommended.

10

Feasibility

Feasibility will be evaluated based on factors such as the principal investigator’s experience, the availability of resources or participants required to complete the study, and the likelihood that the project can be completed within the grant period.
